Best cleaner for urine smell in carpet??? With 2 new puppies in our home, we have had quite a few little accidents and I clean up the accidents RIGHT away, but the smell is still there! We have tried Natures miracle which does not work AT ALL for us, then we tried a natures miracle orange spray, which worked the same as the original, we have also tried 2 different resolve sprays, which were a no go and I just got at Petsmart tonite something called PetZyme which I am trying right now. What do you all use? |
I use Odorban it is great and takes up all the smell. I get it at Sams Club but Walmart may have it also |

You can put the odorban in the bissel with your cleaner and it works that way too |
For small accidents here and there I use vinegar and water mixed together in a spray bottle. Helps with the smell and the stain. |
I love "Resolve". I used the spray for pet stains. But recently found the dual power, which I like even better. |
I bought a recipe pet urine on ebay. This are the ingredients: Baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and ajax liquid dishwashing, mix all that together with a plastic spoon or wooded spoon and puri it on a clean plastic sprayer bottle. Only make what you are going to use, no left overs b/c it can explode or something like that if leave left overs on the bottle. I use that alll the time since Jerome is not fully potty trained yet. No pee smell at all. I love it! |
Why "Ajax"? Would Dove or something work, I wonder??? |
:idontknow, I just do it the way that recipe asks for. Maybe the ingredients in the ajax dishwashing. |
Thanks! I work in a pediatric office so I use odoban at work when we have a vomitting or fecal matter issue(trying not to sound gross! :p ) any smelly issues really! So I really cant stand to use the smell at home! ;) But I will def. try the ajax potion and I dont know if I have tried the resolve dual action? I am sooo desperate though! I might just end up having to shampoo the whole carpet! I woke up this morning and its the first thing I smelled! Ugh! :( |
I have Odoban but haven't tried it for that. I have used Mean Green. I get it at the dollar store for $2.00 or $2.50. It's great for any stain on just about anything. |
Mitzi is the only one of mine that isn't housetrained, so i use this great carpet mousse (cant think what its called off the top of my head) But after cleaning it up, i spray distilled vinegar,as she has a favourite wee spot, and the vinegar leaves no scent for her :) |
I had a bad odor problem at one time, I have used natures miracle, baking soda, vinegar and water, planet urine does not work, and the other stuff similar to natures miracle none of it worked for me. I found proklean and sprayed it several times and the odor was gone. Iloveproklean.com it was the only thing that wound work, I had used so much other stuff it had to work it way through the other stuff. very quick shipping check it out. |
Thanks for all the great advise! |
i scrub with simple green. then spray with febreeze.;) |
I tried everything in wallmart petsmart petco HSN the best one is in home dupot its called zap try it you will love it |
I have used the recipe with the peroxide and it works GREAT!! But I had the recipe stored in my old pc and it crashed..lost the directions of the amounts of ingrediants..so I haven't used it for a while and I am bummed. I have been using oderban from sams since. |

I use vinegar and soap mix. and Zero order It really works. so far so good |
this is one of the most effective ways we got rid of urine smells: At our local Petsmart or Petco we bought this thing called a "Spot Spotter" from a brand called Simple Solutions, which is a UV black light that is battery powered. In a dark room with this light 3 inches away from the carpet you will see every single exact spot of dried urine and you squirt the Simple Solutions odor and stain remover on it. Seeing exactly where the urine spots are on the carpet helped us to target everything and really get rid of the smell. Also, we got a heated steam cleaner to clean the carpet 1x a month and afterwards when the carpet is dry, we sprinkle some baking soda across the entire carpet, let it sit for a while then vacuum it all up. |

Tried Everything... And the best odor eliminator I've used is called Zero Order - easy to use - and really works - check it out... http://www.zeroodorpet.com/?gclid=CP...FSZRFQodaEYiug |
I use something called Anti Icky Poo. I love it |
Resolve Dule Action Resolve Dule Action carpet cleaner is the only thing that works for me. |
After reading about the "super secret recipe" ;) in this thread, I took a big mixing bowl and just threw everything in, guessing amounts...water, dish. deter., baking powd., hydrogen peroxide, and what the heck, just for the SHAZZAM of it, I threw in a little vinegar, too! ;) It seemed to work well! |
I ripped up the carpet & put in wood floors.:) |
Doggy Odor In my experience, none of the grocery store stuff worked. So I tried Planet Urine, which was very costly and did not do the complete job. I found Zero Odor, purchased online for $20.00, takes out the odor. It even worked on an old cat urine stain and odor I had been attempting to remove for 6 months! For the stains I use Joe Campanelli Professional Stain Remover, purchased at QVC, also $20.00. Just spray the stain, and it disappears!! This what works best at our house. |
upholstered furniture? I, too, ripped up my carpet and put new flooring down but Ceeby is lifting his leg on every corner of my couch and chair. I wonder if any of this stuff would work on the furniture. The corners and ruffles are gooey and wet all the time. I have used the pet stain remover from the pet store and use Odoban all the time. Nothing seems to work because he waters it right back down. yes, I have ordered belly bands and they are being shipped today. |
