Neutering My Grizzly is about 15 months old. Originally, we had planned to breed him so we did not get him neutered. But now that I've done some research on breeding, we will NOT be going that route! Now I'm having trouble convincing my husband that we need to get Grizzly neutered. Is 15 months too old? Will he still benefit from it even though we waited so long? Thanks! |
I can understand your position. Nikko is 17 months old and unneutered. My husband has been against it, not so much because we ever had intentions to breed him, but because he feels it is cruel to "cut off his manhood." I have heard other ladies on here say their husbands have felt this way also so I guess it is a "guy thing". Nikko is due for his annual checkup and boosters next week and i will be discussing neutering with his vet. He is a marker and I am not so sure that having the procedure done now will do anything about it since it is already a bad habit but neutering does have health benefits. My vet said it is never too late to neuter them and it does prevent certain types of cancers. |
Thanks for the response! That's exactly how my husband feels too. And he didn't even want the dog in the first place! Grizzly is a marker too. I believe he is FINALLY housebroken. But only at our house. He will still lift his leg at my parents' house if I don't watch him closely. I plan on taking him into the vet for heartworm pills so I will ask him about neutering then. If his health can still benefit from it, then I'm all for it. I don't understand how my husband can argue with that if it will help him live a long, healthy life. |
Their health can still benefit and also they will not wander. I have read some posts on here about Yorkies running out to go to a dog in heat down the street and getting hit by a car. I have also read about one that climbed fences to get to a female in heat and was lost. It may or may not help with marking and humping at this age, but it certainly won't hurt. |
