There's a 1st time for everything... When was the first time you took your lil' babies to the groomers? Fred is 16 weeks. Boy oh boy is he one nappy lil' boy! I just don't know at what age I should take him.. is it too eearly? |
I took Sebastian at about 13 weeks (9 days ago) he got his ears & eyes cleaned, nails trimmed and they trimmed his underside, paws, face & butt area. They also tipped his ears. I did not get his coat cut. I got him groomed at Petsmart and it only cost $14.99 for the puppy package it also included a bath and when they were done they put a little blue bandana that said Petsmart on him. It also only took about 1 hour. |
never have,....... never will |
I took Sandy in after we had had her a month. Tia still hasn't gone |
I groom my own dogs. I always think about taking them though, especially at paw trimming time. UGH. |
If he's nappy you must mean matted? If he's matted, he might have cottony type hair and you might have them trim him down a bit to help with his grooming needs. He can go as soon as he's had all his shots which is about 16 weeks. Some groomers like puppies to start coming in at this age so they can start getting used to the grooming experience early in life. |
I have had Hefner getting used to it since he was 4 months old, but my groomer comes to my home and does my poodle, my westie and my persian cat too, so she wasn't concerned about shots! |
I havent take Gucci to the groomers yet, but will like too. I thinks taking him to the groomers if he has his shots up to date is ok. Good luck. :) |
I took grooming lessons so it helped me save on this. |

i havent gone yet because i am scared and so far I still dont have a good groomer recommended to me |
A religious opposition to the cutting of hair. We've NEVER taken Sully to be groomed. Our Christian denomination STRICTLY believes in no haircuts, and Sully is no exception. Just kidding. LOL. I do have long hair but it's just for fun. I am considering donating 10" of it to Locks of Love? (hmm, considering it seriously). We heard to get our dog's hair trimmed when it becomes hard to manage. Sully's hair IS getting long, but it's not hard to manage as long as we brush it every day, or, every other, something like that. And he looks so darn cute wiht his long shiny coat! :) |
I saw your website and your hair is gorgeous. My friend donated hair to locks of love. I think that is such a cool thing to do. I have short hair so I dont think I can. |
Passion it will be so nice if you donate your beautiful hair. You are such a good person. ;) |
Passion - I donated almost 11 inches to Locks of Love in October. It was one of the best things I've ever done! I can't wait until I can do it again! Definitely do it, I remember seeing your pic and your hair is super long and pretty! But it will grow back, so no worries! |

Tucker is getting his first haircut this weekend. He is 4 months old. Luckily, my cousin is a dog groomer so she dog my dogs for free :) |
Hercules got his first grooming at almost 5 months and Athena got hers at about 3 months. |
Chachi is 16 weeks too and I am getting ready to take him to the groomers. I don't want much hair taken off. I just want them to even it out a little. My groomer said the earlier the better as far as starting to take them. That way they get used to it. |
I havent yet, but I am considering it. I need someone to trim their paws for me becasue they will not sit stiull no matter how sleepy they are!!!! |
Lucy first went when she was about 3 mths I think. Its really difficult to cut her coat as she hates the sound on scissors! It is a two person job, one cutting, the other feeding treats! :D She is better now but she hates it around her face and tummy |
Is there any benefit to trimming their hair?? So, for example, does it grow in stronger, faster? Is it like human hair that needs trimming to grow in more healthier look? |
I work for Petco as a groomer and they sent me to school. I had to sign a contract that i would work for the company for a set amount of time since they paid for all the schooling but I love it. I will stay with Petco for awhile but have thought about doing my own grooming on the side some day too. They are sending me school to be a dog trainer too so I really cant ask for anything more. visit's first worked best for us... When we first adopted Schatzie, we would go into the groomers just to visit (sniff around and smell) while I dropped off Annabelle our Schnauzer. After two visits I felt Schatzie was familiar with the groomer and her establishment to make her "babies first hair cut" go with less tension. |
