Misc. Questions Today my hairdresser informed me that you have to be very careful of what kind of bones you give your Yorkie. If the bone is soft, it will splinter, lodge in her throat, and they will choke. What type of bones do you give your dog(s)? She said pork chop bones are the worst. Pet Stairways - Do you have one and does your pet use it? My bed is 26" hight, and Sadie has a slight problem with her knees. Vet said she is fine as long as she does not jump too high up or down. Milk - Is this bad for dogs? Grass - I have asked numerous friends about Yorkies eating grass and some say it is a way to calm their digestive systems, but I have my doubts. I am concerned about fertilizer. Opinions please. Thanks. Kate |

No Bones at all!!!! Bad for their teeth! Try baby carrots for treats! Also rope toys are good for their teeth! Are you hopelessly in love with her yet???? |
really no bones period? because my mom read somewhere that you are supposed to sterilize bones (don't know how you'd go about doing that :rolleyes: ) then you can lightly stuff them with penut butter and its a healthy way to keep a puppy busy if you should be away from it for a while. this might have been a suggestion for bigger dogs but we just bought a bag of these sweet little bones and i was hoping to try it...glad i haven't (well for our fox terrier anyway) *cooki |
My vet always told me no bones also, but I know that on the BARF diet they give the dogs meat with the bones in it, so I don't know. Raw bones gross me out anyway. I'll stick with other stuff, like the Kong stuffed with peanut butter. |
I don't give bones either. We have a little staircase up to the bed and one up to the couch as well. Sandy uses it because of her bad leg and Tia loves it because she gets to be part of the action! |
This makes it easy then, as I was thinking about not giving her any bones. I thought it helps with the tartar on their teeth. I am really afraid to have her put under to clean her teeth. She is so small. My vet said she could wait a year. Do we have to do this? I am going to try brushing her teeth with a finger brush. Thanks Kate Quote:

Good to know. I have a rope toy (or I should say she does), and will try playing tug of war with her. Yes, if something ever happens to her I will be a basket case. I have had her one week today. I have the best of both worlds, as my parents live next door. Today was the first day I left her off her leash. She was out of my yard in 5 mins. and sitting on my parents back steps. We all laughed like crazy. She likes carrots and lettuce, and I shred them, so I will try a whole baby carrot. I don't know what I would do without this group. Many thanks. Well, now I might be able to help someone out. Everyone has been giving me tips. Some of the pet stores carry a toy made by Kong. They are hollow inside and you can either put peanut butter (not crunchy) inside and it will keep them busy for hours. Peanut butter is fattening, and they do make an artificial peanut butter. The bones are given inside meat in a raw diet to large dogs. I feed my Rotty some raw with his Flint River Ranch Kibble to give him more protein and cut down a little on costs. The uncooked bones don't slinter BUT cooked ones do. If you want to give your Yorkie a treat--eggs are great--and most love them--but not as food just a small snack. =) |

We sometimes give Yoda a hamhock bone or some soupbone as a treat. Not too often, but he loves gnawing on it. Milk is okay for some dogs, but it depends on if your Yorkie is lactose intolerant or not. We don't feed Yoda milk, but we give him bits of cheese at times. |
