Getting a second male.. I have a 2 year old yorkie male and I am getting another male puppy. My groomer and vet said not to get another male because they will fight for dominance all the time and if one doesn't back down- they might fight until one is dead. I was told by my breeder and friends who have multiple yorkies of the same sex that as long as I neuter them both that it shouldn't be a problem. My 2 yr old has been neutered since 6 mos old and the new puppy has been neutered already. Does anyone have advice before we go through with getting another male puppy? Thanks! |
We have 2 boys, ages 21 months and 15 months and they are the best of friends...totally inseperable. They are both neutered and have been together for almost a year, they don't fight and we don't have any dominance issues but maybe that's because they were neutered at a young age. I housetrained them together and had no problems, they are quite a pair! I'm sure some will depend on the temperment of the male you have now...our last Yorkie would have never tollerated another animal in his house or near us but he loved people. I guess the only advice I have is take it slow, supervise them at all times and see how it goes for you. Good luck! |
I just have to say.....I LOVE HAVING TWO!!! I am getting number 3 after I settle in my new home:D It is so much fun....Mine fight every once in awhile but I stop them and let them know that its unacceptable. Other than that they love to play and run around the house. I got my second one (Mimi) because I didn't want Timmy to feel lonely when we weren't home. They are 1 month apart in age. Good Luck...You are going to have so much fun! |
I have 2 males, one is neutered, one is not and they are the BEST of friends. Of course, they play wrestle and run and steal each others toys, but they love each other very much! I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to get 2 boys. |
Thank you so much for the quick responses! It makes me feel so much better! We can't wait to bring the new puppy home on Monday! |
I had two MALE Yorkies, 2 years apart. No problem with them at all. They were the best of brothers. :animal36 :animal36 In fact, they had the same parents. When Spock, the puppy arrived, he was a typical puppy, trying to keep after his brother, Bumpy. No problem. Bumpy was much smaller than Spock but Spock learned to "respect his elder" most of the time. If Bumpy was at the food dish, Spock waited patiently for Bumpy to finish. As they got older, I did feed them separately so I could check how much each ate. They lived happily together until 14-year-old Spock passed away. :rbyorkie: A year later, Bumpy joined him. :angelyork |
We have two males - one is 2 1/2 and the other almost 8 months old. Both are NOT fixed and they have never gotten into any fights thus far! I think it really depends on the dogs themselves. |
I have two males, one is a yorkie and the other is a maltese. They are the best of friends and have always gotten along and neither of them are neutered. I think it really depends on the dog's personality and disposition. |
I have two males both are neutred and no fighting between my guys. |
having 2 males I have 2 males. My yorkie is 2 1/2 and my shih poo is 1. They do very well. Thye seem to be ok "sharing the power". Oliver(shih-poo) shows a little more dominance inside the house, but Otis(Yorkie) is definately the boss when playing in the back yard. There is no food or toy guarding. They were both neutered very young. Oliver does get on Otis's nerves occasionally by constantly wanting to play, but I'm hoping he will chill out a bit as he gets older. They run free in the house while I'm at work and I've never had any problems. If I have to take one of them somewhere, when we return home, they are so happy to see each other they forget all about me. They are best buds! |
I have 3 males and they all get along real great! Lisa |
Thanks so much! My 2 yr old named Bear wants to be friends with every dog he meets. Some of the dogs in our neighborhood aren't as excited to see Bear as he is to see them and it's so sad to watch Bear pout because they won't play. My parents brought their silky terrier puppy to visit with them a month ago and Bear shared everything with him even his favorite squeaky toy! I was hoping that was a good sign, but my parents only stayed a couple days. I just discovered this site last night and it's wonderful to have a place to discuss questions like this!!! |
