Chewy is 41/2 months old... when do they start lifting their leg and marking? He will be Neutered at 6 months. :yeahthat:</IMG> |
I believe getting them neutered at 4 months is what keeps them from lifting their leg, because after 4 months their hormones kick in and make them lift. That's the consensus anyway. |
Luigi was a breeze to house break! In fact, too easy i think! LOL! We got him in January, and it was one of the coldest monthes we had ever had here....and he still did it!!!! He loved the snow and all that! It took a good 3 weeks til he knew when he had to go. So I swear by 5 monthes old he was completely house broken! He is almost 2 now, and has only had about 5 accidents since then! Brasco is another story, but he was a rescue and was abused, so he took alot longer and it was harder cuz he was older! But it took about 4 monthes or so to house break him. Most of his accidents were because he was scared. And he even goes on potty pads! Such a good boy!!!! Livvie is my little stinker! LOL! She is house broken and potty pad trained and she does great. But if for some reason I run outside real quick to get the mail or what not....I come in a step in a puddle of pee! GRRRRR! She just does that to make sure I knoe she is upset she didn't get to run out with me.... lol!!!! Oh well, other than that...she is completely house broken! And I know its her that does that....cuz she aways runs and hides, then peeks her head around the corner and waits for me to clean it up, then she comes back out to get kisses!! LMAO! |
Hiking. Otis was neutered at 6 1/2 months. He was 1 when I got Oliver. Oliver was neutered at 4 months. He may not have lifted, but he followed his brother around outside and had to emmulate his big bro, so he does too! I think it can definately be a learned behavior because my best friends neutered male only lifts his leg when he and my Otis are together! It's like he has to "be cool" like the other guys. Peer Pressure to hike!!! |

By the way, I found a couple of local breeders yesterday from the AKC website. California is so expensive but I don't think I want a puppy shipped. I want to meet the breeder and see her home, see the mom and dad. With Coco I didn't know a lot so I thank my lucky stars she was ok, but I am being a more responsible buyer this time around since I know better. |
It's probably more "dog specific" rather than breed specific. I wouldn't think that just visiting with your friends male dogs occasionally would mean the pup would lift, but who knows? My boys do not mark in the house, only outside. They use potty pads during the day. I have a small 3rd bedroom that is specially for this purpose. They have hiking posts made out of 2 liter bottles filled with water and wrapped with pee pad. Maybe having that specific area for leg lifting help to keep them from marking my furniture. They also have flat pads down for poops. So, to answer your question, I think it will just depend on the pup. |
