Staying within a certain area outside I first want to say I love this website. I am on it constantly at work all day (don't tell my boss) it is on my favorites as well. My furbaby is 9 weeks now and almost has the potty training down to a science. My only other question is how do I keep my Amber Lynn in within a certain area of our yard. We have 35 acres and want her only within a certain area as there is woods on 1 side of the house we do not want her to go in. What method can I use. I tried clapping really loud and saying no, but she just stops looks at me and says haha (Little s**t) I love her so much and want her close to home. Please Help? Laurie |
we have 9 acres. We just fenced in our front yard area for our puppies. Its been a big help, they can go out on the deck and cant get out of the yard area. goodluck to you deciding what to do. |
In order to be safe, I think you're either going to have to fence in a portion of the yard or else keep her on a leash. |
electric fence? chicken wire fence maybe? just till she learns. though i just remembered she's only 9 weeks so i wouldn't do the electric one just yet. |
no , we put up a chain link fence. |
When I lived on acreage I also put up a separate chain link area and a doggy door that led to that area. I don't think electric fences would ever be a choice for a Yorkie. She's going to be with you for a long time so do something permanent. |

Ditto. I would add that many a small dog has been nabbed by coyotes while in open areas. Coyotes run extremely fast, grab their prey, and are gone before you know what happened. Besides, the first time she sees an animal like a squirrel or rabbit, she'll be after it. Do a chain link fence. |
We added a screened in patio (large) with 2 planting areas. I put a bush in each and my little Yorkie (when I get her in 2 weeks) will do her business in those 2 areas. I put some rocks on top of the dirt and just have scoop up the poop. I did the same thing years ago when I had a poodle who would run away at the drop of a hat. I also hate walking any dog. My poodle would raise his leg at every tree we passed and squirt just a little. It took half an hour to empty his bladder. He did love the patio, though. We lived in Southern FL. and he killed many a lizard and several snakes. Good luck, Jan |

I say you absolutely should go with a fence. NO matter how close Amber Lynn is staying now, she is still a terrier and could take off in a flash at any time. Some will never run, those owners are lucky. But you have to remember, it is their instinct to hunt. Don' t be surprised if she takes off after a critter some day. A fence is always the best and safest idea. |
