Yorkie teeth get pulled? I'm reading alot of issues with people having their Yorkie's teeth pulled. I've noticed my little Brodie is getting his adult teeth now and he's got alot of double teeth going on in there. When will his baby teeth fall out? At what point do you decide he has to have them pulled? I've never had this problem. Is this an expensive procedure????? |
Brodie is 8 months old I forgot to post his age. |
Cali retained all of her baby teeth and due to some complications they couldn't pull them when she was spayed. I did not want to put het under again so I have waited. In the last few months she has lost 3 on her own and last friday I had her in the vets for a breathing problem and mentioned that she had one loose molar in the back that just wouldn't come out. They took her in the back ans the vet was able to get two big baby molars out. She said the 4 canine's weren't loose enough to get out but to keep working on them. So I play tug of war and she chews on bones so hopefully they wll loosen up. With your baby hopefully when he is fixed theycan remove the baby teeth and it's not very expensive since he's under anyway. They still may fall out on therir own as well. |
When Winston was about 7-8 months we had to 6 teethes taken out. We really waited for them to come out on their own but that never happened. I believe it was around $170-200 dollars. They had to anesthetize him and he didn't have to spend the night. Winston is now 20 months. Tomorrow our little Maggie who will be 6 months on the 12th will go in to get spayed and have tooth pulled out. Her inside bigger teethes having been falling out but the four in the corner all have double. I don't think those come out that easily. I hope this helps. |

I'm not get him neatured though. |
Dylan (7 1/2 mths) just had his 2 upper canine teeth pulled while under for his neuter. The lower ones had fallen out at about 6 mths. My vet didn't charge any extra for pulling the 2 teeth. If you aren't going to have him neutered I would try to keep working on loosening them yourself (tug of war). I would hate to have him put under just to have baby teeth pulled unless he still hasn't lost them after he is a year old. |
Misha lost all her baby teeth but her canines. Had them removed when she was 9 months. The roots were very long, that's why she never lost them. Price will vary, It cost us around $175. The vet did blood work & put her under. I was able to pick her up later that day. |
I agree I would wait and see if they will fall out on their own and if they don't fall out after he is over a year old then I would talk to my vet. I am taking Summer to get spayed next week so they are going to remove some of her teeth then. They are bothering her too so its better for me to go ahead and get them removed now and it will be cheaper because I am getting her spayed. My vet charges $5 a tooth but if you aren't going to get him fixed then you have to pay for all the other stuff to put him to sleep and the anthesia (sp?). If I were you I would wait unless they are bothering him. |
Maddie lost all of her baby teeth on her own...even her canines. I had gotten her some chew things that were supposed to help dog's teeth and they looked kind of like raw hide. I also played tug of war with her a lot and would notice blood on the toys and those teeth just diappeared one by one! |
Buddy was neutered yesterday and they pulled four teeth at the same time. They charged $60 for the neuter and $12 for the teeth extraction. |
My vet says that Yorkies are the worst for the baby teeth staying in. I know that is true for my girls... I have had 3 yorkies now and all three have had to have their baby teeth out. He says it's not good to wait too long if the permanant teeth are coming in or they will be crooked. Luckily, I have a great vet that I have had for over 16 years. He specializes in tinies. He only gives them enough to keep them out for a very short time and he works fast. I have known two people now that have wanted to save a little $$ and gone to a vet that have given them too much anthesia (sp). Both those dogs ended up acting strangly like they were drugged...never came out of it, brain damaged and died within months. Just make sure your vet is good with tiny dogs or find one that is... I don't mean to sound paranoyd but I am fearful of a vet that handles ALL sizes. :aimeeyork |
I postponed neutering my pup until he was almost a year old - so that he would have more time to lose some of his baby teeth. And - he did - I think he lost one as old as 10 months. Well- when I took him in at a year old - he still had two double teeth on the top and the vet had to pull those. She said they were in there pretty good and were quite hard to pull out. This, she said, is probably the reason they didn't come out on their own. They may never have come out on their own....so, I'm glad they're gone now. Good luck - Carol Jean |
