What made my dog stop barking I tried everything, but found this by accident. I tried it all. From small shock collars, coins in a can, treats, positive training, spray water in the face, citronella spray, correct and redirect, bitter apple in mouth, and more. If Lucy heard a bark across the canyon she saw it as an invitation to join in the fun. She barked at dogs on our walks and would somtimes growl. She is a sweet girl with only one flaw, and she is very smart. One day she heard a dog barking and started to bark along. I had had enough. I rolled up a magazine and hit it hard on the coffee table. She stopped dead in her tracks and looked at me. Not a peep. The rest of the day I carried the magazine or newspaper with me. If she barked I hit it against something loudly. Five days later I have the sweetest, most obedient, non-barking dog. She uses her stroller now, I can take her to lunch with me, she is not barking at other dogs. She is perfect! If you try this let me know the results. I don't know if this works for them all, or if you have to find the thing your dog hates the most. She is 14 months old and we have been working on this since she was 3 months old. Also, and this is important, she plays fetch each morning and evening to wear her out. Although this is not new for her, I noticed she was barkier if not exercised. Let me know if it works. |
How wonderful for you!  |
I know if I really raise my voice to my two they will usually stop and most of the time go lay down some place. If I say i'm gonna get the fly swatter, Kizzy stops right then. |
I'm glad you found something that works! |
Well, the really good thing is that she has even given up trying to bark. She just lets things go. |
Just did a search for "bark collars" and got your messg about the newspaper. I will start tomorrow! Chico is 9 mos old and it's getting where I dread our walks because he goes nuts barking at every dog and people that we come across. He also barks in the house when he hears something outside. I've tried all the things you've tried. I'll let you know if it works. Thanks |
i will try this asap! :) |
Bitsy is an extremely annoying barker. Nothing stops her. If you threaten her or slap a magazine down hard, she just stands her ground and barks louder. I think the problem is that our Sheltie is a notorious barker and once he starts all the little dogs join in. Mostly I just try to keep it under control...at least somewhat. |
Debbie is normally very quiet but when you stop the car to get out, she is so excited that she screams. People stare it's so bad. I'll give your magazine thing a try but I don't think loud noises bother her. She isn't upset by fireworks or rockets as we'd take her with us to watch and she isn't phased at all but I'll give it a try. I'm glad it worked for you. |
That is the only method that worked for me too! I rolled up a magazine and slapped it on my hand. My poodle immediately hides under her paws. (You'd think I beat her........lol). Also, I taught her the word "pao pao" which means spank in English. Whenever she is being 'bad' I tell her "Melody, No! Pao pao". She stops dead on her tracks and lays quietly while digging her head under the nearest pillow.......lol |
Glad you found what works. The coin in can worked for us for awhile, now not so good. I will try your suggestion, but if it doesn't work for us, I don't know what I'm going to do. |
Chloe only goes into a barking frenzy if Penny has something she wants. And when she get started the only way I can get her to stop is to take the item away from Penny which really isnt fair for Penny (poor penny always gets screwed:( ) so I am going to try this magazine thing. |
Congratulations. I know life must be a lot more pleasant for all of you without the noise.:aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
I am definately going to try this thanks for the advice. Mine also bark at people or dogs when we are walking. They also bark when people come and go from my house. Bella has this "girl bark" that goes right through me, so I cant wait to see if this works. |
Hey guys! I just tried the slapping the paper on the table, and Bella stopped her barking frenzy immediately. It seemed to snap her right out of it! Im so excited Im gonna keep doing this and hopefully we will again have a peaceful home when people come and go. Thanks again for this tip.:D |
