Need Answers Please My little boy went to the vet yesterday for his shots, he is 13 weeks old and he weighs 4lbs. I have two questions, first he has a knot on his back where they gave him the shot is that normal? I dont remember him getting one before. Next question, Is he about the normal weight or does that mean he's going to be a little bigger than normal? I dont really care if he is bigger than normal, I will love him anyway, I cant seem to understand the growth charts, lol. You guys alway have great answers and I know I can count on you. Thanks, Regina and Bruiser:aimeeyork |
It is normal for them to have a knot from the shots. It sometimes takes 3 weeks for the bump to go away on my babies. About the weight...he might be a little bigger. They say to multiply their 12 week age weight by two. I think thats how it is and I don't know how accurate it is. Timmy was 2 1/2 lbs at 12 weeks and now he is 6 months and weighs 5 lbs. I'm not sure if this is it for him but he really seems like he's not growing much more. Maybe someone out there can give you more info on the weight thing. |
i think it is normal to have a little lump after shots. the swelling usually goes down in about 3-4 days, dont quote me though. and 4 lbs at 13 weeks doesn't necessarily mean he'll be bigger/smaller than normal. every dog is different and the growth charts doesn't apply to every dog. Buttercup was 1.5lbs when I got him at 11 weeks and now at 7 months he is 3.5lbs. |
Mine little guy weighed 4 lbs 2 oz at 12 weeks - and he weighs 10 pounds now. Still a very little dog! Carol Jean |
The knot and his weight are both very normal! :D :p :D :p :D |
The bump is normal and the weight makes me think he may be a little larger. However, sometimes they lose their "baby weight" and don't turn out as big as you think they might. |
I would guess that your little boy is going to be a bit over the standard at around 9 pounds. The bump is a reaction to the vaccine, but common. Sometimes they can remain there for 5 or 6 months, but most go away sooner than that. |
I have a little girl the one in my avatar she weigh 3lbs at 12 weeks she is now 2 years old and weigh 5lbs. I have new pictures of her but I don't know how to change my avatar or post them. |
when layla got her rabies shot her whole right side behind her "shoulder" swelled and felt very hard. As long as it doen'st seem to hurt him.. and his other activities are normal. i'd just keep my eye on it.. i called my vet about it and he said it was normal... applying heat can help bring the swelling down by brining the blood to the area so if you are really concerned you can try that. hope it helps :) |
I dont think its unusual. Sometimes it will leave a little knot but so far I havent had one on my puppies from theirs. But I would think it will go away. I've had shots myself that left a little swollen knot in my arm for a few days. |
Thanks you all seem to know so much and you always make me feel better about things. I am so glad I found this place. I dont know anyone personally that has a yorkie and I know that if i have a question you all will give me the best answers. Thanks again |
