Precious.... I have a 3 month old (13 weeks) puppy, i named her precious! I am new to the yorkie world but i have 3 other babies, golden, border collie, chihuahua! I have taken everyone advice and brought some karo, and Nutri-Cal. She eats and great, she uses wee wee pads but will not have a bm on the pads she wants to go out side and do the bm business! I have questions about her weight!! I took her to the vet to get her 3rd shots and she weighed a whoping 3.6 pounds!:animal36 But the breeder said she was 1.8 at 8 weeks and there is no way she could be the weight that my vet said. What are you all experiences with the weight situation? I will post the email that my breeder sent me after i asked about the weight situation! I will never not want her because of her weight, as you can see i have assorted of weighty furball babies around my house!:animal-pa |
Precious.... i have seen both her fathers parents and her mothers mother. her fathers daddy is tiny--barely over 2 lbs. her fathers mother was 4 lbs her mother's mother was 4 lbs and her mother was guaranteed to be 3-4 lbs or less, but ended up being 4 1/2. when she was full of milk, she weighed 4.9 her father was 2 lbs @ six weeks old. i thought he would be huge, but he ended up only doubling his 2 month size. he's now almost 1 1/2 year and is not much over 4 lbs. none of my dogs got any bigger after 6 months, so u should know in 3 months how big she'll be did you decide to name her precious? i had a cat named that once i'm glad you're happy with her and that she's happy. i grieved over her lastnight, but i really felt like you would be the perfect home for her. good luck with her and please send me pictures as she grows up... oh... i gave her Heartguard on August 1 and that's also when I put Frontline on her, so you might want to do it again on Sept 1. she will also need one more set of shots sometime within two weeks. Then she wont need anthing until her 1 year booster and rabies vaccination. i brought the labels from her first vaccination with me lastnight but forgot to give them to you. 6 week shot was Canine Spectra 8 and 8 week shot was the puppy booster from Waco Animal Hospital. You can call there and ask them to send you Rikka's records registered under my name and they will send them if you'd like. please keep in touch, thanks Carol |
Precious... yes, i'm positive of her parents weights. i had them weighed at the Waco Animal Hospital just a few weeks ago. i'm also positive that she weighed only 1.02 at 8 weeks and is certainly not 3 times that size now. did you have her weighed by a vet? their scales are more accurate. you can never guarantee a dogs weight, but they are generally around their parents sizes. she isn't as big as either her mother or her father right now. in fact, she looks about 1/2 their size... another thing to consider is her bone structure. she's a very sturdy little dog, which means she will be strong and in better health than a more fragile puppy, but also means she will weigh more even though she's not "bigger" in size. if your concern is that she's goign to be big, you can restrict her food and not give her treats, snacks, or anything off the table. she's always eaten eukanuba, which is considered to be the best dog food available, but it provides a lot of nutrients and protein. she would probably lose weight with a cheaper dog food. when i bought my first yorkie, the breeder told me to only give him a small handful of food in my hand every 4 hours or so. she said it would keep them from overeating and getting big. i generally dont follow that with my dogs because i dont feel that undernourishing them is going to make them healthy... size isnt an issue with me. if you have decided u dont want her because you think she's too big, you can bring her back TODAY and I'll refund your money. i didnt really want to let her go, especially not for $650 as I had her priced at $900 after I had the vet certificate of health, but you seemed like you would provide a better environment for her than I can at this point, since I will be moving in September and cannot keep her inside until I buy a house and that could be several months down the road. it has been 3 weeks since i had her weighed, i told you that. i was guessing at her weight at around 2 lbs right now. again, if you want a refund, please call and make arrangements tonight. |
Precious.... Preciuos is my lil heart, i love her to death... she can weigh 50 pounds and i will love her the same! I was just confused when the vet gave me her weight! Don't mistake me I do want her and I am going to keep her til death do us part! I had her some pictures taken with her little offit on and her bow on her when i get them back i will post the pics!:animal36 :) :D |

I'm glad to see that you are not hung up on size. She'll get as big as she gets. But feed her a good quality food, and give her the proper amount. gowing or getting fat are not the same thing. Most yorkies will not over eat. |
i feed her the same dog food! |
It's possible your vet doesn't have a small dog scale. Take her to a packaging and shipping outlet and their digital scales are really accurate. I really doubt she could have grown that much in 4 weeks, but you never know. |
