DNA testing? Does anyone know how much it costs for DNA testing? My 2nd male climbed out of the top of the cage, I didn't know he could climb, and got my female who has already bred to my first male. Neither of my males or my female have been tested so I think I'm looking at a lot of money. Sylvia |
Around $38.00 per sample, mom, dad and each pup. http://www.vetdnacenter.com/canine-parentage-test.html |
Do you know how it is done? I mean do I take them to my vet to have blood drawn? Cause the office visit would add to the cost. Sylvia |
It is just a cheek swab, not blood. They send you everything you need plus directions. |
Have you ever had to have it done on puppies? I can tell my babies apart but does the AKC require some kind of proof of which one is which? Sylvia |
As far as I know, AKC doesn't require any proof. They will register any puppy from any two AKC parents that you provide. I have never had this problem so you might want to contact AKC and ask what happens when one litter has two fathers. I guess you would need to register two litters and then AKC might want the DNA results, but it will be your responsibility to know which puppy belongs to which DNA test results. I have never used this lab for dogs, but have used it for sexing birds. |
Here's the info. from AKC about multiple sire litter registrations - sounds like they charge you an additional $200.00 if you have two sires. It also sounds like they can do the testing. http://www.akc.org/dna/multisire.cfm |
I have one male I plan to use with one female. If they have a couple litters does he have to have DNA testing? |

HMM Is this recently required testing, the reason so many breeders are using APRI instead of AKC? |
