Apartment Hunting With a YORKIE? Totally hopeless. No one wants Stewie in their buildings! And supposedly Chicago is one of the pet-friendliest places? What the hell? |
|
I am sorry you are having a hard time. I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you to find something!!!! |
Kristy, you can move on down here to Missouri with me ;) There are apartments here that are yorkie friendly! |
I know what you're going through girl! My cousin has a cat and she had a super hard time finding a place that allowed pets! I hope you find a great apartment very soon!! Just let them look at Stewie ... how could anyone resist that face? :p |
Sorry you're having such a hard time. Most places here in Dallas accept pets. Some places have weight/breed restrictions, but it's easy with a Yorkie. |
Grrr, that has got to be so frustrating! Stewie won't mess anything up! Keep us informed how it all goes. There's got to be somewhere! |
good luck kristy in your search, i hope you find something real soon.. like stewies gonna eat the walls or something.. give me a break landlords, get real |
Its so hard to find a place to rent. No pets, no smokers, no children.... But I guess the irresponsible ruin it for the rest. All the best in finding a great home for you and Stewie. |
I feel your pain... A lot of apartments in our area don't allow pets, and buying a house just isn't an option right now... Have you tried searching on forrent.com and apartments.com? I don't know what I'm going to do if/when my parents ever kick me out of the duplex (no, I don't live at home, I rent from them!). With two cats and two dogs, there's not a whole lot of places I could go.... Good luck! |
Finding a place in UK, that accepts animals is like gold dust, so i can really sympathise with you, i hope something turns up for you :) |
It took me months and months to find my place (I am VERY picky and I needed a place that would allow two dogs) and I found it on craigslist.org. Which should make it easier if you live in a city. There are a lot that you will have to weed through but maybe you can find something on there. :) |
Best of luck in your search. I am living in my little ghetto house because it's the only place I could find that would let me have my pets. You have to find an animal lover with a place to rent that knows how important our babies are to us. If you have the time to search, you will find something.:) |
I totally feel your pain! I can't find another place that will allow me to have 2!! Even when I tell them their size!!! grrrrrrr......... Stewie can come live with us :) hehe |

Yes - I know how you feel. I couldn't find a "nice apartment" in California because I had one cat. My sister is here and her son-in-law has about 30 rentals. She said he sure hates to rent to people with pets. Occasionally, he gives in and does, but she said he is almost always sorry that he did. And - it isn't always the size of the pet. Small dog's pee can ruin a carpet too -- right? And, it's the smaller breeds that do most of the barking and bother the neighbors. And there's other damage too -- how many of us have posted here on YT totally upset about something our little Yorkie ruined.... carpet, and even drywall! So - there are definitely two sides. I think this is why so often - so many of us try and encourage younger people to wait until they are more settled before they get a dog. And, sometimes "settled" means getting into your first home......sorry about that! PS: My sister said that more often than not - damage deposits don't even begin to cover some of the damage that some of the pets have done to her son-in-law's rentals......carpets aren't cheap! And this guy loves animals. He lives in a nice home and has two children, two dogs, and other pets as well. Carol Jean |
My boyfriend and I just recently found an apartment after months of searching. We have two yorkies and no one wanted to rent to us either. Sometimes a place would say "pets negotiable" but we found that that basically meant that if there was a choice between us "with 2 dogs" and another applicant with out, then the place always went to the other people. The only advice that I can give is even if a place says they don't allow pets, ask anyway. Yorkies are so small that they may make an exception. Also, the realtor that we worked with suggested that we create "pet resumes" to show the renter. Make sure to attach a picture to show how small your yorkie really is. Also, you might say that you are willing to leave a higher deposit for your dog. The place we found allows us to have our dogs, but only with a $1,000 deposit and when we leave we have to get the carpets professionally cleaned and also get the place fumigated (sp?) for fleas (even though our dogs don't have them). The deposit was difficult for us to scrape up, but we were willing to do anything. Whatever you do, don't give up. We're wishing you good luck! :D |
