Should we have two yorkies alleviate separation anxiety?
 
Two years ago we lost our 14 year old male. It has taken us until recently to get over his demise, but 4 months ago we adopted Caesar, a 2 1/2 year old male. We are considering adopting little girl. She is about 3. We enjoy traveling and when on road trips always take our little guy with us, however, we do go to Hawaii about once a year and would like to do some international traveling in the not too distant future. The couple of times we left our previous yorkie home in the care of a "sitter" he became so ill from stress that he required vet care. We wonder if having a companion would alleviate this problem? Any opinions?

By the way, I tried to put an avatar on here with his picture, but it didn't work.

I believe that having two would make a big difference.

Were your avatar pictures too big? Do you have a resizer? If not just post your pictures on here and someone will resize them for you. Or you can PM me for my email and you can email them to me and I will resize them for you.

I think two would be a good idea. As long as I have had dogs I always have a pair...I feel like they need someone they can relate too hehe...they always turn out to be the bestest of friends.

Oh getting him a little companion will DEFINATELY help!!! :D Also, when you travel, leave some freshly worn clothes around your house on the floor, or in which ever room your yorkie will be staying when you leave. Him being able to smell you while you are gone will really help to alleviate some of the SA. GOOD LUCK!

Yes, if you post your pics on here, I'll resize them for you. Can't wait to see pics of your yorkie! :p

2 definatley will help. I went to Europe in Feb. for my honeymoon for 2 weeks. TJ and Roxy stayed with my stepfather. Roxy has an EXTREME level of anxiety, but b/c TJ was there she did fine!

Yes, I agree too that getting a second one makes a big difference. Before we got Baxter, Snickers would lose it when we left him alone for even a short time. He would cry and scratch at the door constantly, 'forget' that he was potty trained, and generally stress out. Since we have Baxter, he is relaxed and calm when we leave. Having a little brother made all the difference.:aimeeyork

Before Sean, for now an "only", I had two Yorkies. They were 2 years apart in age, from same parents, and got along great. I was working when they were young so they had each other for company. Also, when I went away, they were boarded together.

Since I'm home more now, Sean is fine as an "only." When we go away he stays with his foster mom and her two Yorkies...at Yorkie Camp.:Puppy2: :Puppy2: :Puppy2:

I greatly appreciate your input. My husband really wants to get the little girl so I will probably give in. Our little Caesar is an angel and we are continually amazed that someone would have given him up to rescue. We want him to have the happiest life possible. I have enjoyed this website and feel that I have really gotten a lot of information about yorkies. Since I had one for so long I thought I knew a lot, but you guys have certainly come up with things that I didn't know anything about. Thanks so much.

Seems to me that Caesar is one lucky little guy. Sean is a "rescued dog", too, and a real sweetie.

Keep us posted on the new addition and Caesar's reaction. I'm still considering getting a second one. I know Sean would like a buddy.:woof:
