Does anyone take their dog(s) to work?[B][/B]
 

I need to get a job!! - but want to do a little research before I start handing out my resume. I'd love to find a job that would allow me to bring my dogs! :aimeeyork :aimeeyork - "we wanna go to work with mommy!"

Anyone have a suggestion or know of dog-friendly jobs? I'm also interested in hearing about the pros and the cons of bringing your dog to work.

BTW ~ I've been a stay-at-home mom for 16 years...before that I worked in the fashion industry as a graphic artist for 10 years, also experienced in a dental office (but a dog wouldn't work there...let alone two!). Job doesn't have to be in the fashion or the art industry. I'm more interested in accommodating my dogs!

I was bringing my guys into work for the last couple hours of my shift 2 or 3 nights a week, but somebody recently complained that they were a distraction. I can still bring them in but have to leave them in their kennel most of the time, so I don't do it anymore. Too bad. Everybody else loved them.

My manager said I could bring Adrianna for an hour or so....not the whole 8 hours. I'm hoping to get that hour up to 4 by the end of Sept, lol. :p

Thanks for stearing me to the dogfriendly website. Boo Hoo! My city isn't on there! I guess I don't live in a dog-friendly town. Oh well, it was worth a try. I'll keep my eyes and ears open.

Hmm, Seattle may not be listed among the dog-friendly employers, but it ranks #6 in dog friendly towns:

The Washington State Ferries, the state's number one tourist attraction, also allow leashed dogs. Take your dog to Bainbridge Island on the ferry for a great view of downtown Seattle. You can take a carriage ride through Pioneer Square or visit the Sculpture Garden in Seattle Center.

Seattle is a pretty dog friendly place but not all public parks here allow dogs...and the ferries do allow dogs but won't let you bring your dog onto the deck! You have to keep your dog in the car or on the bottom of the boat where the cars are parked! :mad: Seattle's Alki Beach, one of our best and most popular beaches, will issue a $500 fine to people caught walking their dogs on the sand! (a big no-no, gotta stay on the sidewalk!)

It was great. But, I'm in the process of changing careers now, and don't imagine I'll ever be able to do that again.

Gotta admit, when I was deciding whether or not to make the change, being able to have her at work with me was a big factor.

In the end though, had to chase my dreams...

Now she's home 2-3 days a week (my husband and I have different schedules) for a maximum of 8 hours/day. She's got my other dog and my kitty to keep her company, and we have someone come in mid day to take them outside. It works, but I missed her TERRIBLY in the beginning!

I have brought Bailey to work with me everyday since I got him, I work at an Auto Body Shop,and I run the office, it is great,, livens up the office, the customers love him, when customers return they say " Were is Bailey?" as so as they walk in. Parts people bring him treats. And he visits with the guys brefore work and when they go on break. He loves HIS job. :D And I am so thankful to get to bring him. :thumbup:

Ever think about becoming a dog groomer? I think they can take their dogs to work with them.
I take mine to work sometimes. I work as an instrutor and am teaching him to be quiet in his celltei bag or one of the parents of the skaters I teach will take him. They love him but I try not to do it too much so as not to take advantage of them. I try to only do it when I am in a bind (traveling to different rinks and in a situation where he was with me...we visit my sick niece 1 hour away and I teach there too so bringing him all the way home before work is not awlays feasable) or if they ask...and they ask a lot. I'm hoping to train him to be quiet in a heated bag by taking him when it is just me skating during the day with no one there and leaving the bag by the boards within my sight. If he learns to be quiet...he will get to go everywhere.

I picked up Gracie in Port Angeles, WA, so she had to ride on the ferry. I had her in a carrier and took her on deck. I had walked on the ferry. I think every ferry employee came over to visit and hold her. She wasn't in her carrier very much! Not one word was said. Anyway, my boss said I can bring Gracie to work anytime I want. And I do, usually just for half-days. She needs to run and I need to work. In my experience, it is the smaller businesses, often the non-profits, who have a more pet-friendly work environment. I think a really fun job would be something to do with training service dogs/animals. Open your own retail business. As the boss, you can bring as many fur kids to work as you want!

Amazon.com in Seattle allows dogs. In fact, when they were looking for new office space, this was one of their biggest considerations. I hear there are tons of dogs there on any given day.

I manage an Internal Medicine doctor's office. Not the most likely place to see a dog at work. But luckily, the practice is owned by the docs and they are both dog people. I bring my boys in once a week. I put a baby gate up in my office and bring their bed. They are very well behaved and get to visit all the patients. There was one patient, I've known her for many years, she practically ran down the hall to get to Otis. She has a poodle. She just loved on him, and kissed him. I kind of conducted a test the last day. Out of 28 patients, there was only 1 that didn't smile when they saw him. I'm not sure what the therapy dog criteria are in Indiana, but it's definately something to look into. Whenever I have my boys around, I am noticably LESS STRESSED! That's a proven fact. More business owners should consider it as a way to boost moral and decrease stress!! Let's do our part to increase awareness on this topic.

Maddie can come to work with me everyday, but I only bring her in 3 days a week. My 2 year old daughter comes to work with me too. I work for a heating and cooling place and I'm the only one in the office. My boss is great. He as adopted Lexi as his granddaughter. I've worked for him for 8 years. She has a whole play set up here. Toy kitchen, big Step two climb thing w/ slide, tv, dvd player, the works. Maddie loves it here too. She will bark and want me to put her on my desk and she will lay up there and go to sleep. Its too cute. I'd bring her everyday, but She is trained to potty outside. We dont have a fenced in area here, so with a two year old, it can make it difficult sometimes. At home Our back yard is fenced in and I dont have to worry. At work its on a busy road so I have to take Lexi's hand and the leash, and sometimes, Lexi isnt always willing to work with me. LOL My other daughter Lauryn would stay home with her some during the summer when she wasnt too busy (LOL) You can tell Maddie is really missing her being back to school.:)

I wonder how difficult it would be to train her to use potty pads here at work and go outside at home. Probably tooooo Confusing. She is doing great and I dont want to mess it up... but if she used the potty pads here it would make it much easier cause Not sure what to do in the winter time. I cant be taking Lexi outside all the time in the winter when its really cold.

I would think some of the more pet friendly places would be maybe a receptionist or secretary at a dog groomer's, pet stores...places like that.

I'm an hairstylist in un upscale salon in northern VA. LILO has been comming with me to work since we got her ( 7-10) hours a day. I got her travel crib, where I put her bed, food, peepad, and toys, and she is right next to our manicurist station ( the salon is big, so there is enough space for it). All my clienst LOVE her, nad so far noone complined about her beeing there. She is verry socialized after only 3 weeks at the salon, and she just loves everyone. Plus that, there is always someone to play with her when I'm busy.:D
I think that maybe You could work with the company that, designs dog clothes, or making dog food etc. or You should think about opening Your own doggy butique:D .

I work at an animal friendly job. We have had an office dog for the past 15 years, 2 have past and we now have a little dashund/chi mix. I have 3 bird cages in my office with total of 5 birds and another worker has 2 birds in her office. Everybody loves to hear them throughout the day. I bring my pups to work now and again, as does everybody. I also had my bunny in my office for the longest. Lady at work took him home for her kids. I could not imagine working at a place that does not allow animals. It just calms the nerves and makes people smile.

I have brought my dog to work almost every day since I got him. He 'works' 9-5. Hes laying in his bed as we speak.

My Dad owns his own company, so when he hung out at the office, he took his dogs (German Rott and a LARGE boxer) too. As dog friendly as it was, he didn't allow anyone else to bring their dog, but me. My step-mom works for the Tinker AFB, and she is able to bring the both of them as well. I found that quite suprising. And finaly my Mom works in the office for a flooring company, and she is able to take my Rottie to work with her, as long as he is kenneled. I would think it would be a distraction, as you are at work to work. I suppose some employers feel differently.

That is so funny you say that! I took Sparks tow ork with me yesterday. He had to stay "zipped" up for a while so as not to distract the kids because they go nuts over him and need to concentrate on their skate. I then took him to my second rink to be on the ice and coach. I have been very edgy lately andf (I feel) not as patient as I could be with the kids. I was having a BLAST yesterday. Joking around, unlimited patience, just having the BEST time coaching. I always have the best time coaching when Sparks is with me...I just figured that out. It must be the "therapy" part.

I take Jeter to work everyday. I run the office and my boss told me that if I got a small dog that he could come with me to work. My boss LOVES Jeter. So do all the other employees and customers. I think you have to find a job where you have your own office and a dog lover for a boss. Good luck.

my hubby is a truck driver and i ride with him and we take BO every time lol....and even if i didnt ride with him he would still take him...good luck on finding a job that you can take your baby i know how hard it is to leave them
