Got a question about generic... heartworm medicine! How many people use it and how do you get your furbaby to take it? The generic ones I have seen are tablets. Is it harder to get your dog to take these instead of the chewables? And where do you order yours from? Thanks for any info.! |
Equine Megastore from Australia I have no problems with tablets:) |
Thanks for the reply! I had seen your other post and checked out that store! I love the price but just wanted to know how you get them to eat it!? Do you just put it in with their food? |
Alot of them just eat it right out of my hand. if I have a picky one ...I just break it into a couple pieces and put som nutrical or some yummy gravy type stuf on it and they gobble it up thinking it's a treat. if you leave them whole they will just lick it of.. you need to break it up. |
I use Interceptor which is not a generic but it is a tablet. They are very small tablets so I just open their mouths and place it in the back of their mouth so they have no choice but to swallow it. Mine are picky and will not swallow the tablet so I have to do it that way. |
I asked my vet about the generic heartworm meds. They told me that if it does not have the merial name not to use it because it is not as efective. Any one else hear this. I trust my vet and want my babies protected.:animal-pa |
And I'm sure your vet only sells MERIAL;) |

Try peanut butter I always use peanut butter for tablets. It makes it hard for them to spit it and they almost always swallow it. The peanut butter does not work for the Jack Russell though so I hide hers in a small piece of cheese. |
