Possibly Cause Urinary Tract Infection I recently moved to a new job and can no longer come home at lunch to let the dog out. She now stays inside alone for about 8 or 9 hours straight during the day. She is EXCELLENT when it comes to house training and will absolutely not go in the house. Even if I get home late from work (10-12 hours) she still will not have gone. I've gotten some pee pads and have tried to encourage her to go in the house (wood floors so not a huge deal) but she simply won't. Since I've had her (1.5 yrs) I've always let her out every 4 or 5 hours. The vet had told me it's possible to develope UTI from holding it in too long because of her size. She's 5 pounds. Does anyone else's dog (of the same size) go every 8-10 hours regularly? Anyone have problems occur from this type of behavior? I'm not sure if I shoudl be overly worried about this, and try harder to train her to go inside - as ironic as that is!!! TIA! |

Have you thought about a cat flap, both of mine use one so can go out to toilet when Im not there,I trained them to use it in minutes with treats when they went through! They think its fab they can go out when they please! |

Do you have a friend or relative that could stop over to let you fur baby out? Ten to 12 hours is a long time to be home alone. Maybe you know someone that could stop by to help you. I do that for my sister when she has long days. |

Sorry, I don't have an answer for you, I just wanted to see how things were going. Hope your baby is well. Did you figure out anyway to let her potty during the day? Doggie door? Friend, relative, or neighbor that can let her out? Hope all is well. |

I actually live in an apt, so the door trap isn't feasible. I've been thinking about going the dog walker route, but that can get expensive! My first attempt will be to re-train her to go on the pee pads. On the average day, it's about 9 hours that she's home by herself. I was moreso curious if anyone had experiences with their dog developing infections due to "holding it". Thanks for the suggestions! |
