Serious Question About Breeding?
 
Ok i wasn't going to breed Peeka this is not what i bought him for but i have had 3 people stop by my house while i was in the front yard with Peeka and they have all asked me if i would breed him when he gets older with thier girls. Well i have told them all no because i didn't want to breed him. Well my friend just got the most beautiful baby girl and she asked me if one day i would breed Peeka with her. Now i am not a breeder nor do i want money but i would like another yorkie in the future What do you all think about breeding him one time to get another puppy(his offspring) but i would prob never do it again? Would this be wrong to do? I know you all will give me honest answers i trust you all!

If it were me, I wouldn't do it, because I would be afraid of him marking, etc. I was always told that they should be neutered very early to avoid their hiking their leg. It depends on how important this type behavior is to you, I suppose.;)

This is a serious concern to me as i do not want him marking all over my house and i know i would have to do a lot of research on it but i still have a long time to think about it but i really don't know what to think.

I would neuter at a very young age instead of the six-month or older mark. Do some research on that. You want him to continue squatting instead of hiking his leg. Good luck on your decision.

I am not a big believer in gadgets and gizmos. Common sense is usually the best medicine. Yes, neutering will help, although the fact that he has had sexual experience and surging hormones will influence his thinking beyond neutering. Keep him on a leash when you visit your friends and monitor his every move. Practice sit/stay and down/stay often so that when you make special visits you can expect him to obey you. Order the handouts on Inappropriate elimination in dogs, and Basic Obedience. They will tell you everything you need to know.

I personally think it's fine to breed him once,in order to keep one of his puppies, and then have him immediatly neutered. As long as he's healthy and doesn't have any undesirable traits he could pass on(which he obviously doesn't, he's so darn cute! he has the sweetest face ever:thumbup: ) it seems like a great idea. But like other YTer's have said, the issue with marking might arise, which is not fun:thumbdown . My Pekingese I had, named teddy only weighed 9 lbs. but he marked and destroyed ALOT of our persian rugs and carpet:( .

my Yorkie male is 4 and is not neutered and he has never maked in the house. He has also been aroung other dogs and dog that were in heat.

I have never had a problem with marking.

I have been asking all the time if i would like to breed my dog. People say that my dog is one of the prettiest yorkies they have seen. Of cource, those people don't know anything about show quality yorkies....:D

I don't know much about males, but know for 100% (I communicate with show dogs breeders all the time) that breeding a female once only is worst for her health than not breeding at all.

I had a toy poodle that I stud out just once and he turned into a marking monster! Not to say all will but that was my experience.

I'm not saying you shouldn't consider it, neccessarily, but males will need to undergo testing to make sure they are stud worthy just as a female would. (I'm sure you already know this.)
This is what strikes me as odd. Why would strangers stop and be so eager to have him to stud to their female...just from seeing him in your yard. Not that he isn't a cutie, that's for sure, but shouldn't they know that you have to consider much more than physical appearance for breeding. Apparently not...so are these the type people you'd want to stud him out to? Just something to consider.
And yes, I will be the first to say that after a male knows what mating is...their demeanor can COMPLETELY change.

I wouldn't breed him with the people that have stopped by my house because obviously they have no idea about breeding it' only my friend that i would consider doing this with and yes if i decide i want to do it i will have him dna tested and anyother tests he may need done. i don't even know much myself yet but he is so young i have a while to consider this and i am very worried about the marking issue. I would need to see if thier pup even meets breed standard as well as if peeka meets it as well i just wanted someinput on what everyone thinks i appriciate all your help so far.

btw, you reminded me one male. he and one female "accidently" made babies. now he is just a monstr, when he comes to park, he stops and marks everything (including my Jessica :mad: )in every 5 minutes:eek: :eek: .

Just to clear this up, it is not the strangers that she was considering to stud out her Peeka to, it is her friend's female yorkie that she wants to stud out to.:)

Each dog is different, it is impossible to figure out what their behavior will be like after they are bred. Some males never mark or hump even after being bred several times. On the other hand, some males that are bred will be humping and marking all the time. Some male dogs will even hump and mark everything even after they are neutered and have never been bred. It really just varies by each male dog. Just right down the possible pros and cons of breeding him and then figure out if you are willing to live with the cons.
