Need general Yorkie advice..... My friend needs some advice (no, really...it IS for my friend!). She has the opportunity to get a 7 month old Yorkie from the humane society in her area but he isn't house broken. I told her that crate training shouldn't be a problem even at 7 months but she said her husband doesn't want to crate train a dog...he thinks it's cruel. I told her I would help all I can if she gets him so...does anyone have any advice for her? I've always got my Yorkies when they were young...is the training any different with a 7 month old? I don't know if he's neutered or if he's marking...she's going to let me know all that later. |
The training is the same as for a younger puppy . |
I agree. The training is the same. |
Thanks! I didn't know if she should expect things to be more difficult with his age. She brought him home this afternoon and I told her I would help however I could. That's one more out of a shelter!! |
Best wishes!!! |

Charlie was just rehomed with me on Tuesday. He is 9 months old. Training is the same as a young puppy. I recommend that you try to educate the husband on crate training as it really makes things easier and is not cruel used in the proper fashion. It is not however impossible to housebreak an older dog without crate training.. Good Luck and thanks for helping your friend. You sound like the kind of friend I'd love to have! |
