Thinking at loud! I am not one to start threads but here goes. I lost my Yorkie, Pixie, on July 3rd to a long battle of chronic Pancreatitis and add on two massive HGE attacks. She was healthy for the first 4 years of her life and fought a courageous battle for the last 2 years plus a few months. I have owned four Yorkies previously but many years ago. They all had long lives past 11 years. I never even heard of all the health issues that exist now. I'm still healing from my loss and know there will be another Yorkie in my future. I'm absolutely terrified of looking for one. After reading of Sammi and Gucci plus all others previously hit with awful health issues, I compiled a list of questions for my interview of breeders to pass. I have put my seach on hold because of the response to a couple of questions I asked some breeders. I wasn't concerned about cost but was surprised when a $7500. Yorkie was offered to me and hadn't been tested for liver shunt, nor none of the breeder's Dams and Sires. I wasn't going to spend that much but this breeder had other dogs that were less. I guess they were priced depending on pedigree and quality since the breeder took offense to my couple of questions and hung up on me. My next try was through e-mail, no response although the four pups are still available. I am so put off. What is one supposed to ask a breeder and expect a response when looking for a puppy? I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm not sure what all the correct questions are but maybe someone else can help you. Good luck in your search for a new baby. |
good luck to you |

Good Luck |
I'm so sorry about the loss of your little Pixie. After that, I can understand your worry of getting another. I think that no matter how careful we are when buying a puppy, those things can still happen...some hidden health problem that doesn't show up until later. Good luck in your search for a yorkie and check out all the reputable breeders on YT, who would be honest in answering your questions. I wish you the best in your search and that in the end, you have yourself a healthy, playful little yorkie! |
I am so sorry about your loss of Pixie. I lost my last Yorkie at 6 1/2 due to a severlt collapsed trachea and compications of it. I was so devastated and my dh and dd went and got me a Pomeranian, I finally decided to get another Yorkie 8 years later and got Cali last August. That was prior to joining YT, So Cali is a doll but had a very rough 8 months in and out of ER vets and regular vets. I know now I would only buy a puppy from a breeder I am familiar with, who Bile Acid test, no Luxating Patellas and perferably from someone on YT. There are several great Breeders on here and I will fly whereever next time to get a healthy one. Good luck you baby is out there somewhere. |
Oh I am so sorry to hear about Pixie! You must be scared to death to get another one! I think you are so smart to thoroughly interview breeders you are considering. I would be pretty sceptical of a breeder who took offense to questions and especially if she hung up on me. Your yorkie is out there and you will find her eventually. I wish you the best of luck! |
Please do not buy anything from someone who would charge such a ridiculously inflated price for a yorkie. A reputable breeder will gladly answer any and all questions and ask you quite a few also. |

I would definately stay away from ANY breeder that hung up on me, or wouldn't answer questions. I know most of the time, I ask too many questions of the prospective new owners!! I only hung up on one prospective owner that couldn't understand that after she told me she had had 3 pups die from Parvo in less than a year, I didn't want to sell her one. She said "Its MY money, why should YOU care?" I said "Because it's MY pup, and I DO care!!" Then...I hung up!! Suz |
I am so sorry for the loss of your sweet Pixie....I know she meant so much to you. I will be praying that you come across the right breeder and you get a very healthy pup. |
Jessica I am so sorry for your loss!! I can't imagine the pain you are in! My thoughts and prayers are with you!! |
I'm so sorry for your loss. I would say that all the threads I've read about dodgy breeders they all seem to be asking $7500. That definitely sets off alarm bells in my head. Best of luck finding a breeder and a healthy furbaby. |
I am so sorry for your loss. Why dont you get one of your ups from Sylvan or Feminvstr they will answer your questions and you wont pay $7500 for a yorkie either. And you will be getting a yorkie from someone on her from YT |

Good luck - and think it thru - there are lots of yorkies just waiting for new homes - without that kind of price - anyone who would charge that much is WAY too proud of themselves |
I'm sorry for your loss. I know how heartbreaking that is. I think that is too much money for a new puppy though. I got my little girl from a person that shows dogs and it sure wasn't that much money. Hope your search goes well. |
