Do dog's nails grow...... from both ends? I know that sounds weird but like I always thought they grew from the base of the nail but now I think the ends actually grow too becasue when I cut my little girls nails after a few weeks the end of thier nails get really skinny and pointy but they should be thicker and stumpy from where I cut them. Isnt that weird? I guess it really doesnt matter but I just think that is really strange. |
hmmm..I never thought of it like that. I guess they just close up and get narrower as they grow. |
hmm never thought of that either !?!? |

I think they are just like our. (grow from base outward.) they will taper at the ends due to walking on them. the pavement will file them. at least that is how mine do. i hardly ever have to cut ahia's nails and buckeye has never had to have his cut. he has very very short nails due to the pavement acting like an emery board. |

I initially thought maybe their nails were being naturally filed to a point but I really dont see how becasue my girls are indoor and only go out on the grass outside when they have to go potty. They are very rarely ever on pavement. Its so strange how pointy their nails get and I guess thats why today I am really baffled over it. I wish I didnt have to cut thier nails all the time(they act like I am torturing them when I have to trim thier nails), I think I am going to start takign them on walk more just so I dont have to, lol. |

I agree, I also think it's the was we trim them. When my groomer trims their nails the don't grow out narrow, only when I have, they do. |
I never thought about how they grow either. Every time we take Autumn to get hers trimmed they don't need it because she chews her nails. First one I have ever seen a dog actually bite their own nails. LOL She fights us on trimming them. I was worried she would break her teeth but I haven't had any luck breaking her of chewing her nails. :( |
I hate doing the nails and never thought about this. |
I always thought they were like cats claws and they kinda shed the outside layer and there is a new nail underneath. I found one of Ella's once that looked like it had done that but I'm not too sure. |
