How old was your puppy when you got her? Just wondering what the average age is when you first got your puppy? And did you feed them dry food with water or dry food with moist food? Thanks for the response Laurie:aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
too young 6 weeks they should stay with the mom at least 10-12 weeks espically smaller dogs. dry food moistened with water to make it mooshy easier for them to eat. their teeth aren't really through yet at 6 weeks. |
eight weeks soft food for a few days then hard food moistened |
I got Sophie when she was 9 weeks old. She was eating her dry food like a champ. I didn't have to moisten it.:) |
I got ne at 6 weeks and one at 8 weeks. I feed them soft food at first |
One was 8 weeks and one wdas 10. I gave the 8 week old dry food smashed and moistened, but she ate very little of it. She ate mostly cottage cheese and scrambled eggs for the first week. Chachi was older and he was on dry food, with some Cesars in the morning and evening. I don't know how you guys did it with 6 week olds, I was in a panic with one at 8 weeks. it is much better to wait till 10 or 12. |
Mine were 12 weeks 10 weeks and 8 weeks. Only the 8 week did I soften the food. :) |
Codie was 12 weeks. Katie (RIP) was 5 months old. Tia was 4 months old. Cali will be 6 months old when I pick her up. |
My puppies don't totally wean from the Mom until 8 or 9 weeks of age. No puppy ever goes to a new home less than 12 weeks and most often 4 months. Buying them less than 12 weeks is risky. I got a phone call yesterday afternoon from someone that bought a pup less than 8 weeks through the paper. They were having problems and the Vet they went to knew less than they did to help this puppy. I told them what to do and which clinic to go to if the problems persist as they could lose that pup. Hope it worked out for them. |
I got Harley when he was only 8wks old and I believe whole heartedly that was too early. I think they need atleast 10-12wks with their mum before they should go to their new homes. I fed Harley a mix of soft and hard food for about a week then worked into only hard kibble and he adjusted well. |
I got Hobbs when he was 8 weeks and Hootie when she was 7 weeks (most would say too young, but it worked out for us). I stopped feeding them wet and only fed dry around 10-12 weeks of age. |
I got Snickers when he was 11 weeks. I feed him slightly moistened dry in the morining, kept regular dry available at all times, & about 2- 3 tablespoons of wet in the evening. |
Hallie was 2.5 when I adopted her and Simon was about 10-12 weeks, which was terrifying since I was his second owner in that short time frame. Simon ate dry food mixed with water but he was very sick. |
Little Bit I got Little Bit when she was 9 weeks old & weighed 13 ounces. I moistened the dry food for a week or so. :aimeeyork |
Dennis was 8 weeks, and Sahara I just brought home this Saturday and she was 13 weeks. I just posted some pictures of her while everyone is napping. Go see her, she is too cute!!! |
