do yorkies know time???
 

my mom and sister say dogs do not know time. when you leave them and go out they don't know if it's been 1 hour or 5 hours. i think they do. when i leave romeo for long periods i think he's aware and upset. what do you think??? :confused: :confused: :confused:

Absolutely, positively and without a doubt Yorkies do tell time. They have internal bio-rhythm. And yes, they do know how long it is permitted for us to leave them along without getting really p'o'ed

chattiesmom- you make alot of sense. i think they are just trying to get me to stay out with them without feeling guilty.

Mine can tell time.
 

My two always go to bed at the same time. You don't even have to say bedtime anymore. They also get ticked if you don't let them out of their room at a decent time (before 10).

I totally believe they can tell time. My cocker spaniels used to know to the minute when I would get home from work - and now with my yorkie girls - they come get me when its dinner time - without fail :)

even when I'm out....no matter how long I'm gone - they seem to know when I'm a few streets away - my husband tells me they always perk up when I'm close to the house in the car - it's WEIRD !!

I feel they definitely know time. Mine even know when it's time for their treats. :)

I totally believe it. Every day except S & S we get up a 6:15. On S & S Katy wants us to get up a the same time.

I believe they do know what time of day it is, but I don't think they know a long time from a short time. they will act the same if you've been gone 5 minutes or 5 hours. But I feel guilty leaving them for long periods, whether they are aware of the time or not.

Lets face it we love them and want to be with them.

At precisely 9:30 every night our three get cookies -- and they don't like it if we are late.

This is an interesting subject. Of course, dogs can't look at a clock and tell you what time it is -- but they must have some sort of a sense of time for their own daily activities.

I can't figure this out for the life of me. My little Yorkie comes to my bed and whines or barks to wake me up every morning at exactly ten minutes to eight. When I say "exactly," I mean he is never off more than one or two minutes. He barks or whines - I look at the clock - and, I can't believe it.

And - even more interesting - he has gotten me up at ten to eight for 5 or 6 months now --- which means that the time of year, or the time it gets light outside doesn't matter at all.

And - to make it even more amazing - we live by no schedule here. We never (the dogs or me) go to bed at the same time every night. So - how many hours he has slept has nothing to do with it either.

My little Yorkie really is a little "alarm clock." I can't figure it out.

Something tells him when it is 10 minutes to 8:00. I have two parakeets. They chirp a lot in the morning. Maybe they are part of the answer - or maybe it's me. Maybe that's when I start moving around in bed every morning. Or perhaps the birds outside start making some sort of noises at that time. There may even be some noise off somewhere every morning at this time that I don't even hear....

Whatever - it is interesting!

We all have biological clocks. The difference between humans and dogs is that humans generally disregard totally disregard their internal clocks and and dogs live by theirs.

I give my two yorkies their bedtime snack at around 8:30 every night and my husband and I are amazed that our older 3 year old yorkie, Lulu will come and stand by me and just stare at me until I look at her. It happened so repeatedly that we realized she was telling me it was snack time. She is always between 5 and 10 minutes of 8:30 when she does it. We joke that it is a good thing we didn't waste money buying her a watch, haha.

Sean acts EXACTLY the same no matter how long we are gone. Today we had to leave him for 10 hours since we had to go to a funeral a distance away. (Since we adopted/rescued him 5 months ago, we've never left him alone that long!) I was concerned that he would need to go out before we returned home. He was fine all the time we were gone...no mess of any kind in the carpeted room he stays in. (I did leave on the A/C, radio, and his food and water were available.) As soon as I walked in he was very excited :Puppy2: to see us, rolled over onto his back for his belly rub as I put on his harness. He ran :animal37 to the door for his leash, took a short walk, did his pee, and was ready to come back in for a treat.

Funny...when we are home he wants to go out all the time. I think it's mostly to get us to pay attention, but he does pee each time.

Lexie & Peanut wake me up every morning at 5:00, I don't even have to use an alarm clock anymore...Max waits at the door to go out at 5:30 everyday, thats the time I take him out to eat & stay outside till I get home....:rolleyes:

i think they do know time. Remy will sleep at the same time every night and will be attached to me each morning when i go to work at the usual same time.

when i go to work as well, i'll come home and he'll be depressed or with a look on his face, like "why'd u leave me for so long?" maybe 2 hours wouldnt make a difference from 3 but 1 and 5 hours i think they'd get the point that you really left.
