We have a petstore a couple hours north of us that work with the local humane society to place dogs/puppies and cats. The dogs they have for adoption are not purchased from mills. They are dogs that have been abandoned or rescued and are up for adoption. You have to file for adoption and they do an extensive check on prospective owners. |

IF they don't shut them down - they need to police them way more than they do - the Agencies responsible for these poor dogs just don't cut it. The Inspectors look the other way in too many cases. No dog should be left in the conditions many are found - did you see the Horrible post here ? http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49767 Good God - how can this happen ? I've said this before - but we call dogs 'Man's Best Friend'. :( After reading and seeing how we treat them in this country - that statement is nothing but a lie. I've been in a Mill - without knowing it 10 years ago - when we bought my Cocker Spaniel Tessa - it wasn't a horror show but it really upset me and I walked around almost in tears looking at all the barking lonely puppies - It was pretty bad as far as the cages all in a row - the smell... and the constant barking - when they handed me Tessa and told me she had a really bad underbite and would probably never be sold - I ran out of there and left my then boyfriend (now husband) to pay for her. |
Hon, I completely understand why you came on so strong and I wouldn't expect anything less of someone who loves their furbabies! I am a bit soured on one group I won't name cuz I am not sure if that would break a rule that buy the dogs from miller auctions. They DID get them proper medical care and try to place them in homes etc BUT when another individual found a dog name for sale on ebay (they weren't selling the dog, just the rights to name their dog breeding business) the people in this rescue group went so far as to threaten bodily harm to this person. I was shocked and offended and felt that these rescue people had gone off the deep end. They didn't believe in ANYONE having puppies or breeding their dogs. They didn't care if you were responsible or not, breeding and selling pups was a no no BUT they would charge anywhere from $400 to $1000 for someone to "adopt" their rescues. To me, that wasn't adopting a rescue, that was purchasing a dog but only IF they approved you. Needless to say I left that group! |
Wow - you're right - they should be sticking to what they're susposed to do -Rescue dogs and find them a great home. I guess you can say the same thing happened with PETA - they really do have the best interests of animals at heart - but they can be fanatical and a little over the top with some of their causes. But overall - I'm glad they're out there spreading the word and trying to open peoples eyes. |
