questions about 1st heat... i need to get snickers spayed she is already 9months old and i am definately not breeding her... a few weeks ago she was really tired and much calmer than usual... when i picked her up then put her down i had a lil blood on my shirt but that was the only time i noticed anything... i didnt know if there were signs of when they are about to go into heat or a general idea of when they usually do... i have heard different things by going through different posts can anyone help? i am going to get her spayed in the next month or so i know its better to get they fixed before thier 1st heat health-wise and was scheduled to be done awhile back but due to some family emergencies and snickers being ill for a few months everything got pushed back... thanks for any help as always |
I don't know anything about 1st heats. We got Misha spayed real early, & my Vet says to get Piper done at 6 months. So I guess that will be coming up soon. |
Cali and both came into heat before I got them spayed. It sounds like she is in heat. Cali was much less active and not as hungry and had a little blood. She was quite swollen down there also. |

she does seem a little swollen... i am calling the vet in the morning just to check in - i have no friends that have dogs so its hard for me to tell whats going on thank goodness for this site :) she bled very little tho if so... like i said when i lifted her off the couch and put her in the kitchen i noticed i had a lil blood on my shirt thanks for responding tho i will check in with her vet... i really wish i had gotten her spayed sooner but its going to be done asap! |
From what I understand some dogs just keep themselves very clean and you hardly notice any blood. My guess is the first heat could be very light anyway. |
how often do they go into heat? is it a yearly thing? twice a year? or once a month... and how long does it last? would she still be in heat right now? th i'm asking so i know my time frame for getting her spayed for some reason i was thinking yearly |
