I just got my Yorkie, Jada, 1 week ago, when is it safe to take her to the groomers and have her ears trimmed?

i brought Gracie around that age her hair on hear ears were getting thick and it needs to stay trimmed for the ears to stay up and stuff a friend who is a groomer said it was fine

I took Jewels at that age. I think it is good to get them used to a groomer while they are young

yes it's good to get the hair off to keep the ears up.

Congratulations and Welcome to YT.

The breeder shaved and taped Ollie's ears at 8 weeks. So I'm guessing it will be fine to have them trimmed.

I was told to wait till we finished our puppy shots - was that 12 weeks or 16 weeks, not sure :confused: 12 weeks I think. Anyway, I called my groomer and she said not to bring them till then and to get a moustach/beard trimmer (got mine at walmart) and shave the ears my self, since I needed to get some hair off before we finished up the shots. It was very easy - and then I had to use the trimmer again, when we got the hairy plugged up poop butt syndrome :D

you could try to do it yourself? but get someone to help you by holding the puppy . i have been shaving my dogs ears from the beginning but it can be very nerve racking i worry that when they dont sit still they will lose a ear but all has been ok.

you have to have the bordatella vacc (kennel Cough)first and my vet said it's best to wait untill they have all thier shots before you take them. it's really easy to shave them yourself it just takes some practice.

I don't recommend bordetella for Yorkies as many have adverse reactions to it. Really all you have to do is use a moustache shaver and do it yourself. If you are squeamish, and the puppy has had at minimum the first two puppy vaccs you can phone a grooming shop and ask them to shave the ear tips with a #30 blade while you wait. It takes all of 30 seconds to do.

Peeka and Boo both had thier bordetella already and they did fine they had it at 10 weeks but you won't find a groomer that will take them unless they have it they won't let you take your dog if it's not vaccinated you can't even take them to training classes if you don't have it it's the law we even have to get rabies by 6 months here or they can take our dogs.

Interesting as this is not the case in my area. In fact, there seems to be a trend likely with the situation of overvaccination issues that many training places do not require annual vacc's or bordetella. No grooming shop here in my area requires anything except the dog. We are only required to have rabies if we are travelling with the dog between US and Canada.

wow i guess everywhere is different. here they have to have bordetella to go anywhere where other dogs will be in close contact and because parvo is on the rise they require all puppy shots to be done first but we don't have flea problems here so every where is diff thanks for the info nice to know!:thumbup:
