taking them into stores I just bought a carrier for my new yorkie and I wanted to know what places I should attempt to take him with me into. I don't wanna push the boundaries on this one but I'd love to take him with me when I go shopping. Any suggestions? |

Funny I noticed your thread today- I was just in Target this morning with LillyBelle in her purse (as usual). We have been there many, many times before-today, though, the manager tracked me down and told me that I had to take my dog out--I told him I was blind and needed her--it didnt work--so I said okay--Luckily, I had gotten what I needed and just checked out. (Im still offended) Lilly is used to shopping, she just sits in her purse with her head out and most people dont even notice her. But she does have a doggy purse in her assortment, just for these occasions. It just zips all they way around, and has mesh on both ends. When she was younger, she would just panic if I tried to put her in this purse, so it took some training and patience to teach her to be in her "shhh" purse. We practiced at home, I would put her in it for a very short period, praise her and give her a tiny treat...Now she hops right in and lays down, and doesnt make a peep. She loves to GO!! anywhere/anytime...She's 4lbs and easy to carry around.... I keep an assortment of purses and leashes in my car, you can go to most pet stores and some restaurants with outdoors seating with just a leash....(watch out for bigger dogs) I didnt start taking her out and about until about 5-6mos, and then for very short trips. Be mindful of his tolerance to be out-- remember to bring water, food, and be careful of the heat...Dont ever leave out in your car...Kind of like having a baby with you! Have fun. |
I agree most grocery stores and where food is served don't really appreciate or allow dogs. And - you can take your dogs into a lot of places a lot of times before someone finally steps up and reminds you they shouldn't be there. I have never taken my dogs anyplace that they aren't allowed to go. And - only occasionally, for a number of reasons, I have taken them places where I thought it would be okay -- and have not had any problems, but if anyone did tell me they weren't allowed there - I'd apologize, say I didn't know, and not take them back there. I, personally, do not "sneak" my dog into any place and always try to follow the rules. I do think it is wonderful that dogs are being allowed more places as time goes by. But still -- I follow the rules. I can't imagine why anyone would ever feel "offended," if they were told that their dog wasn't allowed to be some place... Carol Jean |
"offended" was just a little joke--I understand the policy about stores w/food-my target doesnt have a grocery part... |
Today I took Riley (4 months old) in her carrier on all my errands(10am-2pm). We went to the bank, Circuit City, Marshall's, TJMaxx, PetSmart & visited my sister. She does great. She never makes noise. Of course, I never take her to store that sell food. Usually no one even notices that she there. I try to take her somewhere at least 3-4 times a week so she'll be used to both the carrier & the car rides. |
ever seen these bags - undercover pups? i push the limit. no food stores though. we have only been kicked out of barnes and noble. they have a cafe. he was in a bag too.http://geocities.com/undercoverpups/index.html |
You've got to try the stroller! I've taken Beanie into a coffee shop and Subway sandwich shop - no one noticed. The dog stroller was zipped up with a blankie over it. Beanie didn't make a sound and everyone assumed it was a baby!:p Of course, she is my baby! |
