The Fear of the Ear Yorkies have to have the hair inside the ears plucked out and I was in fear of causing pain to Buckeye so with one of his vet visits I mentioned it to them and asked if they would do that for me. They said they would and proceded to fold his little ear back and started RIPPING his hair out. (there was lots there too) Buckeye didn't flinch a bit! My eyes were probably the size of 1/2 dollars and I was sure they should have put him under some kind of anesthetic. This was the vets assistant and I was sure she didn't know what she was doing. When I questioned her she informed me they do not have nerve endings inside the ears and they do not feel it. She said they may flinch but only because they hear the tearing sound. If I were to grab some of the other hair he would feel it. Then she charged me $7.00 for the hair removal. GUESS WHO DOES IT NOW! :D |
It's important that the hair be plucked to keep down ear infections, etc. We also have it done at the vet. The groomer is supposed to do it but so far our vet usually winds up doing it over because there is so much left behind. She doesn't like to be the "bad guy" because Toto hates it and cries! She uses a powder that makes them easier to pull out and then a rinse that gets the powder out! We bought all the stuff to do it ourselves but just don't have the nerve!! We are big chickens! ;) |
Yup, Yoda is so brave about it it astounds me. The only thing we can't do is cut his nails. We must not have the right equipment for that. |
Fasteddie ... we also bought the nail equipment ... since they weren't selling "the nerve to try it" ... we also haven't used that either!! My philosophy .... I will just leave that to the experts!!! ;) |
My mom used to be a groomer and work at a vet office for 16 years, so I am lucky enough to have her do all of that stuff (for free). When she is doing it I have to leave the room though, because I make them nervous with the way that I act. |
Thank goodness for groomers and vet's because i too do not have the nerve to do it all. Especially the annual glands. Tomorrow is Schatzie's first time at the groomer. She has gone in a couple times only to drop off her sister so she got to sniff around, but tomorrow will either be a calm day for her or nerotic. I of course will be a nervous wreck and not sure why? She has quite a bit of hair in her ears now, look forward to see how she will look when it's all said and done. I have not been able to put top knot bows in yet as her hair isn't long enough, sure look forward to the days I can do those. I bought gobs of them and they just sit there until her hair grows. :p |
