Yorkie Scam!!!. Ok so i been doing research on Yorkies so that I can buy one soon, and I have been writing to people asking them about their puppies and prices. I came across this website called backpage which is basically ad's. Everytime I would google "Yorkies for sale" it would pop up. I decided to reply to a few of the ad's and see what they had to say. To my surprise they all replied the same day and all had a story about how they're not in their hometown and they are in Africa and cannot take care of their puppies at the moment. They also said that they are not worried about money and just want the shipping cost which was $200 or $300. Then they would say that they only want payments through western union and were also saying that they ship through delta airlines. No lie I received 11 emails and they all claimed to be in Nigeria. Most of them said that they were Christians and they claimed to be real religious and that they were in Africa for a missionary. They didn't even question me about how I would care for the puppy or anything like that. I really believe this is a scam, have you heard of this happening before? |
All the time unfortunately. The words Nigeria, Religion, Western Union, only shipping are all alerts to scams. Be cautious and you will find the puppy you deserve, if at all possible, find one local or close enough you can drive to and see the home where they were raised. |
Yes, this happens all the time. Do a search for "scam the scammer." Nicole had many e-mails with one of these scammers. It's a great read! |
I have hear about these scams, it is so sad. :( |
Last month while searching for a yorkie the same thing happened to me..there was a listing on nextdaypets.com and when I emailed him to get more info he answered all my questions and it sounded legit then when I told him I wanted the puppy is when he told me he was in nigera doind misionary work but the puppy would be sent from texas...I was like you must be kidding when I confronted him he responded with a very rude email. Be careful!! |
The yorkie scams are pretty frequent !!!! |

Yeah, you're not th only one to come across that When I was looking for my Yorkie, I also got a lot of email replies from people on 'missionary' or 'veterinarian' work in Africa. They all sound the same and these ads are all over the place, not only on backpage. Be cautious and read between the lines. Also, check out the link, it's pretty self-explanatory. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...t=scam+scammer |
The same thing happened to me in June. I was shopping for a new baby and I responded to some ads in Washington state and I was contacted by e-mail and it sounded legit to begin with. Then he asked for money in Africa as he was with the World Health Organization. Red Flag. I began to research him by cross referencing his ads and was able to get his cell number. I e-mailed him to stop his scamming as I had his number and that was the last I heard from him. His cell number was one issued in Maryland.... |
They are everywhere, there is one on the site I look at all the time/ I sent them and email and told them I knew it was scam and I was turning them over to the site manager. One time they sent me a email full of bad word and threatened me. They are loosers. |
I feel bad for the uneducated people that don't know any different. I wish they would say stuff on the news or newspapers telling people to watch out when buying a puppy. I'm sure there are tons of people getting ripped off every day. |
Oh this is horrible. Seems you can't trust hardly anyone online. I guess that is why it's so important to really know your breeder well. |
I just discovered this scam as well. I was perusing Yahoo ads looking for a Yorkie pup, and was surprised to see so many for FREE, I emailed a few of the people, and in their replies they said they were in Europe and all I had to do was pay shipping. Yeah right! I knew it was a scam right away! |
