Just a walk in the park… :animal37 :heart to Took Dennis for a walk on the floodwall, which parallels the “Rail Trail” where people walk, bike, roller blade, and run their pets. Dennis prefers the floodwall as it is usually just him and me, and he can run free. So I am walking behind him with ear buds in my ears listening to the radio, deep in thought and very relaxed. I never take my eyes off Dennis and am always surveying the landscape, so it was quite a shock when I see Dennis walk into the tall grass and lean closer to something of extreme interest. I take another step and see two big white teeth as big as Dennis’ ears. Dennis is so close, I swear their noses were touching! I then realize it is a woodchuck grazing. I scream for Dennis to come, which he ignores, and by the second scream the woodchuck is off and running with Dennis a second behind! I charge down the floodwall yelling and grab Dennis just as he is about to follow the woodchuck into his den, that is entranced by a rather large woodpile. I caught him in midair, which leaves no doubt in my mind where he was going. I don’t think woodchucks bite, though I do know they have quite sharp nails as they dig very large holes in the ground that we need machines to imitate. I think a claw to the face could easily remove it! Just thought I would share my morning and now I am just going to try to catch my breath! |

WOW . thank god all turned out oka. When Kodi was very young he was nose to nose with a baby opossium It was cute for about 2 seconds. Then I thought. Oh god his momma could be close and her i was worried about. They bite and scratch and are mean to protect babies. I'm so glad all turned out well. |
I have not been able to break Dennis from pulling and tugging, so I have been letting him off when we get in what I thought was a safe place, though there is no such thing. He is going to give me a heart attack, I swear I don’t know if I can ever really keep him safe! Always into something that could potentially hurt him. When he was only a little over a pound he would be jumping all over everything, from any height. I can’t tell you how many times I caught him in mid flight! He always reminded me of a flying squirrel because he looked like he was catching the wind as he glided through the air. I wish I had pictures you would not believe it! My heart is still pounding... |
 You'd better go back to the leash! You scared me to death! :D |
