Hello...Newbie here!! i would like to introduce me and my yorkie to this community. her name is princess :aimeeyork was born on march 20 2006 she is 4 months and 10 days :p , i dont have any pictures at this moment as my dig camera broke and looking to buy a new one, well i bought her from local breeder for my wife as gift as she adores yorkies first day she didnt go to work to stay with her(i wanted to stay too:p ) but i couldnt stay, now after 4 months princess loves me more than her probably bcuz she is a female  who knows!, but anyways i felt in love with her and now i want to know more about this breed so thats why im here, also looking to either adopt or buy a second one as we always take princess over my mom's house every morning before work bcuz one time we left her by herself at our house by the time we came back princess was crying and bitting us and we couldnt make her stop crying and that was for about an hour, well maybe it was bcuz we didnt teach her to stay in the cage(she hates it) and my mother has 2 dogs and she loves playing with them so thats why im looking for a second yorkie now so we can leave them in our house to take care of it:D PS. now i have a BIG problem with her bcuz her hair is not as silky as it should and her skin is dry, we bath her once a month and give her science diet natural food for puppy, she scratches the whole day and sometimes she cries and it makes me feel useless as vet told me she was too young to put her in treatment...someone please help!! |
pic 1 Attachment(s) here is the pic, i found one that my cousin had, hope everyone like it:D |
well hello there superman, im gina, welcome to yorkie talk. you found a great site for any information on yorkies that you need,, people are so wonderful here and very knowledgable too... have fun. you baby is adorable. |
Welcome to YT! You'll find lots of great information here. :welcome4: For her dry skin, it could be the food you're feeding her. There are a lot of better quality foods - check various posts as there are tons of recommendations (Chicken Soup, Merricks, Wellness). Also what do you use to bath her? Chris Christensen has a line of fantastic products that are great. Whatever you're using might be drying out her skin, especially if it's not a product made specifically for dogs. |
Hello and welcome to YT. Check your dog food bag and see if corn is listed first. She maybe allergic to it. My older yorkie has this problem. I have her on a lamb and rice food and it seem to have taken care of the itching. Also where you live.. has a lot of fleas so make sure you have her on a flea treatment like frontline,advanage..etc. One flea can make them scatch like crazy. You can give yorkies a bath once a week. You might try an oatmeal based treatment shampoo. I always use baby shampoo on mine. They can become itchy when they get to dirty as well. Good luck, I hope you can find out what is causing her to itch and scatch so much. Also, good luck in finding a new addition to your family. Yorkie's are like potatoes chips ..you can't have just one. :D I have 6  |

hello... welcome..... |
:welcome4: to YT:exclaim: You will find loads of info here! I had the same problem with Timmy when we first brought him home. He had very dry skin & coat and of course since this site is so helpful I found info on what could help with his coat & skin. I started to use Missing Link and after 3 days I started to see results and now after a month no more dry coat. Timmy's coat is now shiny and silky. I now use Pet Silk shampoo & conditioner and I love it! I also use liquid silk from Pet Silk which is a serum and I put some on their coat after their bath....it leaves them nice and soft and smells real good. |
thanks all of you for all the positive comments. when princess was younger she got some fleas bcuz of my mothers dogs so i bought frontline and put it to all 3 of them so that worked. i bought a oatmeal shampoo and thats that we use but i think the main issue is the food, as her skin is so dry that she has dandruff on her body, and plus before we were using eukanuba but princess would eat her poop so thats why we changed it and also the vet recommended but i want to try chicken soup, i hope it works:( , also let me ask something else is it ok for yorkies to get in the pool?, she have jumped only 2 times out of the 4 months thatwe have her.... PS. i want my princess to have a healthy skin and long hair just like ruby cupcake, she is sooo beautifull! |
Hello and welcome to YT! so glad you and Princess found this site! It's so full of great info and wonderful friends! Princess could be alergic to her food, Science Diet has corn in it and some dogs are alergic to corm, I would try to change her food and make sure you pay attention to the ingredients, there is a thread about this and I advice you to read it. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48516 also if I were you I would use a good dog conditioner on her, that will help with her dry itchy skin. Good luck to you and I look forward to getting to know you and Princess better! |
Welcome to YT! Your Princess is adorable and so is your cousin! Mitzi had the same problems and we switched her to Eagle Pack Holistic Lamb & Rice diet. We also had to change her treats. During the time we where changing the diet we had her wear a cotton t-shirt and for some reason it helped her against the iching too. BTW :eyetearss |
Welcome to YT! Your little girl is precious! I have 2 adult yorkies and I use Garnier Fructise Sleek and Shine on them once a week. I also feed Royal Canin. |
Hi and :welcome4: to YT! That is a very cute picture of you and your baby! :love07: |
Hi There! I'm pretty new to YT to, but only in 2 short months I've learned soooo much.( Thanks to the wonderfull people on here). When it comes to itchy skin, I'll try adding Missing Link Supplement to her kibble and also I'll bath her more often ( maybe once every 10 days). Plus that previous comments are absolutelly right, It might be the corn in the food You use ,and try using mosturizing shampoo and conditioner ( I use Petsilk and LOVE IT) Well ,good luck and stick around ;) |
:welcome4: I know you are going to love it here!! |
Hi and welcome to Y.T. I have found many answer here and have lots of fun too. Make sure you check out dogster.com I have 3 yorkiies. like Yorkiegirl2 says they aare like chips you got to have more. |
Welcome to YT, Princess is a cutie. Look forward in seeing more pic's of Princess. |
Welcome. This is the perfect place for yorkie questions. |
Hi and welcome!!! your baby is so cuteeeeeeeeee. |
Welcome Welcome to YT! I have two yorkies, Starsky is 18 months and Shylah is 4 months like yours. She was born 04-05-06. She had bad skin when I got her and it was flaking all the time and she itched so bad. The breeder had her on Royal Canin which I found out has corn in it. I stopped that and now she is on Nutro natural puppy, small bites. Plus I use the Chris Christensen products on her too. Her skin is just fine now. I do have to bath her more than Starsky because she gets dirtier quicker. Starsky has long legs and she is so close to the ground. I bath her about every 10 days or so. I think her fur is silkier then Starsky's and it collects dirt quicker. Hope this helps and I would like to see more pictures of her. When is her birthday? |
thanks everyone for the comments, well here is what i did. i bought Merricks the puppy bites dry food at my local pet spa and also since they didnt have pet silk i had to buy paul mitchell's new shampoo for dogs, to me it seem that her hair and skin were much softer after the bath but lets see what happens after 3 days while she eats her new food...oh and i took some new pics again with my cousin hehe this shot was before the new food and the shampoo and she was a mess bcuz was playing with they toy poodle my brother bought... the pics are too big to post:( ....and im at work and i have restricted access and cannot edit them to smaller size...sorry! |
Welcome and your baby is precious. |
Hi and :welcome4: to YT! You'll find a wealth of information here and people willing to help when you just can't find the answers. Princess is absolutely precious:) Oh, I'm Suzi, owned by 2 yorkies, Gabby and Gage. |
Hi & welcome to YT. You've gotten great advice so far and the new food is a great one. If you switch over all at once, she might get diarreah. It is recommended that you add the new food gradually to the old food until it is all new food (over the course of 1-2 weeks). You asked about her swimming. There are lots of folks on here who have pools and their Yorkies love them. Just make sure she is safe when swimming just as you would a child. Never leave them alone and make sure she doesn't have access to the pool when you are not around. |
