Rice? Hi everyone: Sadie loves rice, and I know it is good to give to them if they have upset tummies (I heard brown rice is best). But, what I am wondering is if it is OK to give her rice with all her meals? She loves it, but my concern is that it does turn to sugar eventually, and is it wise to feed it to her so often. I don't give her alot, but my thinking is that it still may be too much. I don't want to damage her kidneys, liver, etc. Thanka. Kate |
Starchy Carbohydrates such as bread, rice, couscous, millet are said not to be good for them as a daily diet...but its included by many wet food manufacturers... this explains it a bit... Soluble carbohydrates are the starchy portion of a plant that can be easily broken down in your dog's digestive tract. Soluble carbohydrates are found in high concentrations in cereal grains such as rice, wheat, corn, barley, and oats. Your dog can quickly, easily digest the cooked or extruded forms of soluble carbohydrates found in most pet foods. However, dogs cannot easily digest all forms of starch, such as those found in raw cereal grains. Some starchy carbohydrates, including raw potatoes and bananas, are completely resistant to digestion in dogs. hope this helps |

Sissy gets brown rice almost every day. |
when Lillie had her bad diarreah episode the otherday everyone said to give her chicken and rice, so I did for 2 days and she pooped out the rice whole, so how can that be good for them when it comes out whole? When they are sick like that, should you puree it? |
Thanks everyone for your replies. Very helpful. Sadie has gained 1/2 and I think it is because of the rice. But, she has been alittle over weight before, and I can quickly get her back to 5-1/2 lbs. Kate |
