bit her self on hind legs... our little girl bit/gnawed at herself on her back legs where the underbelly is and now has a scabby/fleshy area. What should we do, bandage it up, put antibiotic cream? How can we prevent her biting this and letting it heal? She's never done this and I've notice her licking the area lately. Poor baby. It must be irritating. Jennie |
My JPop did this a couple weeks ago. The vet called it a "hot spot". Bacteria affects the area due to them licking and the hair staying moist. He cut the hair around the area:( , gave him a shot and some cream to put on it. It was a type of cortisone for itching. From comments made on this board, if caught soon enough, you can treat it with neosporene (sp). Good luck, just don't let it go too long. |
I'd call the vet just to be sure. I've heard of hot spots but don't know much about them. |
