My dog hates me!! So I'ved had Stump since he was 3 months old. He is now 11 months old. And everynight since we've had him he has slept in my bed with me. I can tell he considers me as his mom, because anytime someone will play with him and chase him around he will come to me like "okay mom I give up, now save me". Anyway. For the past 2 weeks or so, he has whined all night long at my door, I'll let him out and he wants to sleep with my parents. It's hurting my feelings, because he is my dog, and I don't want him to like them better.. lol. I kno that is probably selfish, but I don't understand why he doesn't like sleeping with me anymore. Anyone ever had this happen? Or know why he might not like sleeping with me anymore? |
Maybe it's time for your parents to find a place of their own ? LOL - KIDDING!!! I would just let him go where he wants unless they don't want him sleeping with them - personally - I LOVE it when my sons boys sleep with me...but I understand how you feel. They go thru stages - he knows you're his mom. |
That's definatley strange! I'd be a little jealous too. Did you maybe change something in your room? Bring in anything new that he may be afraid of? Change the temperature? |
Awww, that stinks sweetie! My first yorkie totally prefers my husband and it really used to hurt my feelings. Maybe he is seeing your parents as the pack leaders? I know there are things you can do to assert yourself as the pack leader. I'm sure someone a lot more knowledgable than me will come along and offer you the perfect advise! |
The same thing happened to me when I got "my" first dog. Even though he is "your" dog, does your mom or dad take care of him more than you do? For instance, who feeds him? potty trains him? takes him on walks? takes him outside? stays home with him during the day? bathes him? brushes him? takes him to the vet? ect....When I got my first dog, I was in high school school, and my mom stayed at home during the day. So, she was the one doing most of the potty training, giving her treats, taking her on walks, ect. So naturally, my dog took to my mom more than me. (Yorkies are definately one-person dogs.) She eventually started jumping out of my bed to sleep with my mom and dad. :( I was so sad. Then I went off to college. My mom told me that if I got there and found that I had time for a dog, then I could have "my" dog after being there for a few weeks. Well, I had my dog for a week and found out I just didn't have time for her. Sophie is now officially my parents' dog. Sophie is very happy and very spoiled. Now I am married and my hubby and I have 2 yorkies of our own. We still tell Sophie that she a very confused little girl bc she doesn't know WHO her mom is and she doesn't know if Hootie and Hobbs are her cousins or her siblings. Sorry for the long story, but I would just let your little guy do whatever he wants. He is still YOUR dog, but at least it would relieve you of some responsibility if he takes to your parents more. |
I got Remmy for my daughter. He was supposed to be her dog but guess what...he is my dog. Here is why and I'm sure that this does not apply to you but....I fed him, bathed him, walked him etc. So he regards me as his momma. He won't even come to her. But the more you do with and for a dog the more attached they get to that person. |
Well, He is free fed, so he always has his food out (his vet recommended this because if we didn't he wouldn't eat!). As for treats and potty training, we all have a part in that. But I mainly do everything else, I stay at home all day. During the day time he will go get in my bed, or curl up with me on the couch and sleep with me. But at night time he wants them now. And some nights he will run back and forth fo an hour before he makes up his mind. But he always ends up picking her!! I'm just upset because I'm moving out in a couple months and of course I want to take him with me, he is like my son. He has his own company named after him lol. But If he is attatched to my parents more than me, I don't want to have to hear him whin everynight when we don't live here. I have been babysitting for a family friend for the past month or 2. I wonder if that has anything to do with it. Because shes 6 months old, so during te day time I have to tend to her a lot, and he ends up sleeping all day. |
my Tootie was my daughters dog too... he will NOT sleep with her because she closes her door, I dont. He goes to her and stays with her all the time as long as she does not close the door.. He cries at her door at night but wont stay in there if she closes him in.... d |

It could have something to do with the babysitting. I know I would be sad too, but it might be just a phase. |
When you babysit during the day, is the child at your house where the dog can see him/her? Maybe he's a little jealous or something. I would go ahead and take him when you move and see how he does. Give him a little time to get used to new surroundings, and I'll bet he'll be fine. Good luck to you! |
Maybe you snore to loud and it keeps him up? LOL, just kidding. That sucks he doesn't want to sleep you with anymore, but maybe he just feels more comfortable in your parents room. My boxer would only sleep in my room, never anyone elses. After I moved out he would sleep in the hallway by my door. Finally he got the hint that I was out of the house and eventually started sleeping other places. |
Thanks for all of your help. Hopefully it's just a phase, and hopefully he will get over it. Thanks! |
I am sorry you are going through this...maybe it is just a phase. You know, sometimes us humans go through phases like this too, getting tired of the same person, liking someone new for awhile, etc. I heard that sometimes a pet will go toward someone who doesn't like him (they sense that) and try to get their love and affection, more than yours because they already know they have you. I wonder if that is it? I don't know....I am sure he will be back with you soon! Take care! And still spoil him rotten with your love and playing! |
