Help? Champ is 4 months old. I am just wondering if he will out grow some of his ways that he has as a puppy. He is pretty hyper. He won't let us hold him or pet him. When I even try to pick him up he barks at me and runs. When we do get a chance to hold him, he bites really hard. Potty training isn't going that well either. My husband says he is not turning out to be a good pet for our family. We do love him so much, we are just praying things get better. My vet says we can neuter at 4 months, she says people just think you have to wait till six months. Will he grow out of all this? Will neutering help? |
He will settle down as he gets older. Cali settled down by 9 -10 months of age. A big difference, she stopped the biting and shuggles a lot and looks out the windows. I don't know about the neutering maybe someone else can help on that. I think it's just the puppy stage. Good luck! Try and enjoy the playfullness they are only puppies for a short while. |
I'm sure there are others that will give you some good advice - it sounds to me like you need to take control of your little guy. You must let him know that you are the leader of the pack. When dogs get out of control, it is often because they don't know who is the pack leader. My Rowdy was never quite that rambunctious - but he did start the barking at us to get our attention or to get us to do something. I decided to take action. With his harness on, the next time he barked at us, I grabbed him by the back of the harness (gently, but swiftly enough to startle him) and I shook him (gently, but again, enough to get his ATTENTION) and said NO! in a firm/mean sounding voice. It only took 2 shakings and he completely stopped barking at us. Again, he was not as hyper nor as headstrong as it sounds like your baby is - so you will probalby need the advice of others on this board for additional strategies. You CAN get control of him, I promise and it sounds like you really need to. Also, a walk is a great way to tire them out (a tired puppy is a good puppy) - helps them learn that you are in control, and will solve lots of behavior problems. If you haven't watched or read the Dog Whisper (Cesar Milan) you should as it sounds like you may need some tips on asserting your dominance as the leader of the pack. For sure, lots of this behavior is puppy stage - he will get better, but there are things to help the problems you are having. |
