Consumer Reports Air travel for pets Just opened up my new issue of Consumer reports & found an interesting piece on pets & air travel. I will try and duplicate it. This was for air travel July 2005 - April 2006 Airline Deaths Injuries Losses Total incidents Continental 8 8 16 Alaska 3 4 1 8 American 6 6 Delta 3 1 2 6 Northwest 4 2 6 United 4 4 US Air 1 1 1 3 Total 25 18 6 49 This is the fees they charge Airline Carry on Checked Alaska $75 one way $75 under 50lbs, over 50lbs cargo rate American $80 " $100 one way other restrictions Continenal $80 " $119 and up Delta $50 " $100 one way Northwest $80 " $139 -$359 restrictions United $80 " $100 small kennel $200 lg kennel Us Air $80 " Only on shuttle in Boston/ New York area. They also had restrictions as far as where(ie Dosmestic, some to Caribbean, some to Mexico). In the report they did say what some of the incidents were that happened to the animals on the airlines. I found it to be interesting. The article is in the Sept issue |
The spaces did not come through quite right on the animal incidents so I will try it this way. Continenal: deaths 8, injuries 8, losses 0, total incidents 16 Alaska: deaths 3, injuries 4, losses 1, total incidents 8 American: deaths 6, injuries 0, losses 0, total incidents 6 Delta: deaths 3, injuries 1, losses 2, total incidents 6 Northwest: deaths 0, injuries 4, losses 2, total incidents 6 United: deaths 4, injuries 0, losses 0, total incidents 4 US Air: deaths 1, injuries 1, losses 1, total incidents 3 Total: deaths 25, injuries 18, losses 6, total incidents 49 |
