Babies... At what age can a Yorkie get pregnant and how many puppies can they have if the mommy and daddy are about 4lbs each?? I would love Violeta to have babies just like her and make her a family, although it's a little difficult to find yorkies like her in my country. :p :) :p |
questions Wait until she has had a second heat..at least past a year, 18 months is better for a small girl..average litter is 3 to 4 pups..besure you have a vet for an emergancy. |
Thanks A Lot!!!! |
When I read your post, the first thought that came to mind was, please, oh, please, let her research for that entire year about the real possibilities and probabilities of problems that can cause death to a beloved family pet. If you search out and read posts on these Yorkie forums you will see a lot of info that will help you make a learned, educated decision about breeding your pet..First of all, the size of the female needs to be such that she will not be permanently injured by the pregnancy. The weight of the sire is somewhat important, but you have to look back many generations of ancestors as that is where the characteristics will be drawn from. Dam could have 3 tinies and free-whelp; or 1 huge puppy and need a section. Find a good experienced mentor who can start preparing you to make what could be the most important decision concerning your bitch and her life. |
Thanks a lot, I'll do the propper research. When I got my little one I met her grandmother, cousins and sister... This lady that own this yorkies is trully in love with them and I know everytime she breeds them she keeps one or two just because she likes to have them around her... But I really didnt know it was a threat to them to have babies, on the contrary I heard that not letting them have at list one pregnancy could be bad for their health, If you have some info on this please let me know what are the dangers of breeding. Thanks again. |
Defenitely do a lot of research. I think that 4 lbs is small to breed but that is my opinion. My Gucci is almost 5 lbs and my hubby will love to breed her but i dont want to. To me she is too small, i will die if i loose her during delivery. If you still want to breed reserch and talk to your vet to verify that she is a good size to breed. I have heard that usually the female should around 6 lbs and the male is smaller. Good luck. :aimeeyork |

Actually, it's better for them if you don't plan on breeding them to get them spayed before they ever go into their first estrus. It reduces chances of certain cancers and uterine infections later on in life. |
