Hurt Ego.... *laughs* Kinda mine and Kinda Alex's.... I just recently started putting in little bows in his hair. Today he had a black one, and I thought he looked cute. The black bow matched his blue and black t-shirt that said "superstar". We went to my boyfriend's parents today for a birthday and everyone teased him. They said he looked like a girl. I have only put the black bow in his golden locks and now I don't know if I should anymore. I figured that this was the best place to ask. Should boys wear bows? Plus, I have been to numerous websites looking for clothing. Has anyone found one that has boy colors or boy like clothing and not dresses? After seeing all the cute clothes for girls I want a little girl... I figured this was the place to ask about the bow thing....here I thought he looked sooo cute and put together and stylish.... Beth :aimeeyork |
Try www.barkingdog.com they have some great clothes and at reasonable prices. |
Imapreciouspup.com has some super cute boy things.. I will for sure be buying some for my guy. Barkin dog clothes also has some things you can have custom made in boy-ish fabrics. I had some super cute little t-shirts made for Tuffy and they were very boy looking. As for bows, my guy doesn't wear them because he hates them and I hate people calling him a girl.. but I've never been against it! Though, if you don't want people to think he's a girl, ditch the bows. ;) |
Awww, I don't think it matters if you put a bow in his hair! Some people prefer not to, but if I had a male, I can guarentee he would wear bows as well - I think they are so cute! :) |
I always put Hefner's hair up now because it's long and would be in his eyes if I didn't. I sometimes put a bow in and sometimes I put a little claw clip in. He wears really macho shirts like "SECURITY" and "I'M TOUGHER THAN I LOOK", etc! That kind of helps with the girly thing! |
I put blue bows and scrunchies in bentleys hair and I wouldn't have it any other way! Everyone who doesn't like it can kiss my yorkies behind :D |
There is nothing wrong with putting bows in his hair as long as they are 'boy colors'. I used to get teased my my whole family and my in-laws family for doing my little girls' hair and dressing her up, but they got used to it. They haven'y gotten used to me painting her nails though :) just tough it out and laugh along with them. Trust me, it's not very fun for them to tease you when they don't get the reaction they are looking for. You could try www.fetchndigs.com for some great boy clothes, or do what I did for my husband's minpin, and start making them yourself!! :) It's not as hard as you think. |
I have seen lots of male dogs with bows and there's nothing wrong with that...they look cute! If you like bows in his hair, I say go for it! |
for sure barkindogclothes.com has boy clothes! I too sell boy clothes as well as girl clothing, but my website is far from done.. so i'm taking requests if you'd like! imapreciouspup.com and yorkiecouture.com has a lot of cute boy clothes as well! |
Hurt Ego.... I personally wont put a bow in Frankie's hair but...sometimes I wish he was a she. Maybe I'll just get me a female eventually. :aimeeyork :Puppy: |

I've had people say things to me. I dress Gus in whatever I want and put pretty bows in his hair. He also has a beautiful crystal necklace with flowers all the way around. He looks fabulous. :) I tell people who make comments that Gus is very secure in his masculinity! :P~~~ and HE'S A DOG! Not a baby boy. |

That's why I got girls. My husband said the same thing. I think boy colored bows are fine though. They look so cute! I've also seen cute boy clothes at pamperedpuppy.com |
I have a little guy, too, and tried the bows....it didn't work. LOL My husband & my teenage daughter were both very vocal about the "sissy-bow" and I haven't put one in since. Although...once we let him grow out a little, there will surely be the need for a topknot, so I'm thinking the colored bands are the way to go. |
1 Attachment(s) If you think a little black bow is bad. Meet Tiny my cross-dressing MALE yorkie. What can I say, he's cute in a dress. :D |
If you are worried about bows being tooo girly (which i don't think they are) then you could just put his hair up with a plain band with no bow attached. Then you could have the best of both worlds. But remember that not everyone thinks of dogs as more than a pet. You'll never be able to change that, all you can do is agree to disagree. It's your baby, and you will do whatever you wish with him. If they don't like how you have him dressed, his hair done, etc. then you could tell them that "you can respect that they don't like it, but you would appreciate it if they could respect that it is how you like it." How can they argue with that? It's respectful but gets your point across! Good luck!!!!! ;) |
That IS a cute dress yorkieagility! Personally, I will not put bows in Stewie's hair. I do occasionally put a small claw (same one Yoda is wearing in his bday pics) in his hair and may eventually pull it back into a top knot with a latex band. |
Yorkieagility: Tiny is adorable!!!!!!!! I love the dress! That's the best looking crossdresser I have ever seen! |
[QUOTE=Ilovebaby]But remember that not everyone thinks of dogs as more than a pet. You'll never be able to change that, all you can do is agree to disagree. [QUOTE] That is SOOOOO true! Some people actually treat dogs like dogs! Can you even fathom that kind of thinking??? I've been made fun of for having pet insurance on Bentley. I WISH I had gotten insurance for BItsy!!! |
I use either plain rubber bands on Skippy, when it's nothing going on-but if I want him to look nice-He gets a bow! If I didn't use something-you couldn't see his eyes and he couldn't see. I think it looks cute. I say, who cares what others think!! ;) |
Off the subject a little but how do you take pictures of your dogs without the eyes shining like Skippy's?? |
Stewie's always shine green in every pictures where he's looking. You just have to mess around with the angles that your'e taking them. |

Yorkieagility...he looks adorable. Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I like the idea of using colored bands to pull his hair back. I figured this was the best place to come after yesterday. I feel confident in putting "manly bows " ;) in his hair. I will definately be looking into all of these websites. Thanks for all your help and advice. Beth |
i have made bows for Buckeye using a camo looking ribbon. and also used football buttons or beads. can't get any more boyish than that. Buckeye has to have his hair out of his eyes. he is mostly in scrunchies or tiny bands. i buy them by the big packs in the baby department in walmart. |
<-----I put the clear rubberband-type hair ties that are "ouchless" by GOODY in first, then a SUPER tiny claw clip....she looks adorable with her hair done. :p I haven't found any cute rhinestone (inexpensive) clips small and not heavy..and not something she can easily take out, yet. |
http://www.scunci.com/images/product...ages/182_l.jpg New from SCUNCI brand. Theyre about $3.00 a pack at most drugstores. ;) |
MydogKelsey, Those clips are so cute. I have to go shopping for Gucci. The rubberband Im using I thing hurt her cause she keeps scratching her head until they come off. Thanks for the idea. :D |
