Tail's length? I was just curious as to how long everybodys yorkie tails are? I think Peanut's is 2.5 inches. Hmm, i wonder how long a yorkies tail would be if it hadn't been docked? Peggy |
For some reason, my guys have just a nub, maybe an inch. I've read that a Yorkie's tail is supposed to be docked in half. I've seen pictures of undocked Yorkies, and their tails look to be at least 6 inches. |
Gypsy's is just over 2 1/2 in. but I'm not sure exactly what they're supposed to be. She got her Championship though so her's must be OK. :) |
Chattie has only a nub! :( Chizzie, Peppy, Izzabella, and Howard all have "show" length tails. With Izzabella and Howard, the vet took off the 1/3 of the tail  or was it that she left 1/3? Anyway I am very happy, Dr. Amy did a FANTASTIC job! |

1 Attachment(s) Sissy's tail is about 2", but it looks longer than that because the hair on the tip is longer and she kind-of holds it upright, so it looks longer. This photo is on the dark side, but if you look, you'll see what I mean about how she holds her tail. |
Snicker's is about 2 inches, but it looks a little longer because of how his hair sticks up. Maybe I'm dumb.....but why do many breeds get their tails docked anyway?? Just wondering. |

1 Attachment(s) Here is a full tail. It is a little longer cos it is curved around. Excuse the scruffiness! |
1 Attachment(s) Piper being a Morkie we didn't get her tail docked. It looks more like a maltese tail with less hair |

1 Attachment(s) Thankyou we think Piper is cute also. Be very careful as with all breeders. We have had a lot of health problems with Piper, but my husband wanted a Morkie. Misha our Maltese, no problems at all. Fantastic breeder. |
got this from akc site Tail Docked to a medium length and carried slightly higher than the level of the back. it does not say actual length though? |
Brody's is long enough to see it wag and that is all I care about. It is about 1-1.5" for his little body. ;) |

When we took our 5 puppies to get their tails docked, the Vet said he cut off 1 inch. All of their tails turned out very nice. |
Working dog]s tails were docked in the past because it made it easier for them to move around in their working environments - and it made it less likely that they would incur injuries to their tails while doing their jobs. However - few of our "working breeds" really do the type of work that they were bred for anymore ---making tail docking only something that we do to achieve the "look" that we are used to with different breeds. It has definitely become more cosmetic and less necessary today. For this reason (and rightfully so), a lot of people believe that it no longer should to be done. And - there is no doubt that there is current a strong trend against docking dog's tails. I suspect that in the future most breed's tails will no longer be docked. Carol Jean |
