My Yorkie Pup's A Faker!! Lola loves to show off and get attention from strangers. She loves everyone and esp other dogs... She lets everyone pet her and "pretends" to be a sweet little angel. When she gets home its another story!!! She turns into "devil dog" and gets annoyed when we pet her, instead she only wants to play!! She'll drag the closest toy to you if you want to give her a scratch behind her ear. :( She is only 4 1/2 months so maybe her personality hasn't fully developed, but why is she soooooo "cute" and "sweet" for strangers and not for her mama??? ( I do appreciate her fakeness tho, I can't even imagine if she tried to bite a little kid  ) I just want her to let me pet her without trying to bite my hand!!! Oh, when she's in her "devil dog" personna, she'll even bark, snarl, and lunge!! She makes this really mean face, and wrinkle her nose at me, it's cute but also a tiny bit scary!! |
wow, I dont know what to say, that just dont sound like a typical Yorkie to me. The ones I have came in contact with have usually wonderfull personalities, but then again, who knows behind closed doors! I'm sorry your baby is not well behaved for you. The only thing I can suggest is get her into some puppy training classes, maybe that will mellow her out. Good luck |
Haha.. I also have a 4.5 month old yorkie going through the same stage. He's in puppy classes and during one class the instructor said after spending 15 minutes working with him, "I'm going to be honest - I don't know what to tell you. Nothing motivates this dog to behave!!" Sometimes he's an angel and sometimes he's downright scary. I believe it's just a phase he's going through. He's teething, he's hot b/c it's summer, and has a TON of energy from being a puppy. I'm sure both of our dogs will grow into well behaved adult yorkies!! :) |
She will grow out of that. Be firm about what she is not allowed to do though. I would let her know that biting, growling, lunging is not ok. Tinkerbell used to get out of hand when she was a pup and I'd have to give her a little break away from us in her pen. |
Wow, that sounds like Adie. I had to make sure she learned "No" as soon as possible and she stops what she is doing when she hears it. She may go right back to it but at least she knows she is supposed to stop it. We just think she is a mouthy little thing that likes to pretend she is a pit bull! She is pretty hard to pet unless she is tired and it is her choice to sit still. I'm sure both of them will both grow out of it but I intend to take Adie to puppy school as soon as she finishes all of her shots. Good luck! |
Although puppies are so cute, this is something that needs to be taken care of immediately. Though it could be a phase, this could also be behavior that remains if not taken care of. When she snarls, bites, growls, put her on time out. Then take her out when she's calm. Try to pet her, if she shows the same behavior, put her back in her time out spot, until she is friendlier. You have to have a lot of patience. She may be going in and out of time out several times a day. As long as you are patient and consistent, she will get better. Good luck:thumbup: |
We just took tough little tomboy Adie to the groomer yesterday. She was very calm and didn't seem to mind the groomer handling her, but by the time she got home she was nothing but wiggles chewing and running! I really think Lola is playing with you and simply has no inhibitions because she trusts you. Hang in there and get her in to puppy school! Good luck! |
Sadie never tries to bite me, but she doesn't like to be pet either. She LOVES to be scratched, but not pet. You could sit and pet my parents' dog for hours, but not Sadie! |
