Tick problem Is anyone else having a tick probem? I have treated my dogs and yard and home yet I still have a horriable tick problem. I have used all the different products on the market even the expensive stuff from my vet nothing seems to help. :( My poor babies are covered in ticks. I even find the nasty things crawling around my house. I am considering hiring a professional to come and treat the yard. I'm so fustrated with the whole thing. |
I am sorry you are having that problem. I have never had a problem with ticks where I live. I would have the yard sprayed like you suggested. |
Sorry you are having this problem. We are having the same problem, but with FLEAS! We are treating the yard, bombing our house, and the vet said that we could give them Frontline every 2 weeks when we are having problems. Maybe you could do all these things. I'm sure it would do nothing but help. |
I have done everything except hire a professional to come and spray the yard. unfortunately frontline only works on fleas I have been doing the k9 advantix without any secess. I am sure it is helping some but I just can't live with the ticks anymore! I have treated my yard and house my self so I think the next step is to hire a professional. I think the mild winter we had last year is to blame for this horrible infestation with ticks and fleas. My vet said he is having similar problems and that he thinks that the bugs are becoming immune to the stuff we use. I think he may be on to something. |
I would definitely have a professional come spray the yard and house. I'd also switch the dogs to a different repellant. I use Revolution and have no problems at all. Good luck! |
I tried Revolution and Kitty had an allergic reaction to it. I have tried all of the repellents on the market. I have had no luck with any of them. I do think that the advantix is helping some just not to the extent I would like it to. |
I visited an aunt's house this spring and Reuger got COVERED with little tiny ticks. I had him on Advantage and thought that I had tick coverage but when I got home I checked and, sure enough, it wasn't for ticks. I changed to Frontline Plus and I haven't had any trouble since. I haven't been back to my aunt's but I live in a wooded area myself and haven't had any problems. With Frontline Plus they will still have the ticks attach but they die in a very short time. I've probably found 8-10 that had already died. I would probably go ahead and spray the yard and switch to Frontline Plus. Good luck! |
Kitty If it makes you fell any better I am finding ticks on Katy too. We Frontline and have tried the others as well. I think that it is just a bad year for us. Too much dry weather. Hopefully, the weather will change. Mean while I give Katy a nightly inspection. |
I am having a problem with ticks also. I actually found a tick attached inside of my Jack Russel's ear a couple of days ago. It was still small though so I know it had not been there long. I had to quit walking mine by the creek that runs through our neighborhood and just stick to staying on the sidewalk. That has helped a lot but it is so much hotter as there is no shade. Poor little doggies. I can't wait until fall. |
Be careful of lyme with all the ticks. My dog(sheppard mix) got lyme about 4 yrs ago. We treated her and she still tested postive a couple years. It wasn't until I changed vets (long story) they treated her with different meds and she got the lyme vaccine. |
I found a tick on Nelly this evening. I did not know what it was first because we never had a problem with any of the other dogs. I was bathing her and her back paw hurt, when I looked I saw this little white thing sticking into her paw. I put polysporin on it because I thought it was just a sore until Nelly managed to pull it out and I saw it moving. I do not know anything about ticks. Do they spread, how do you know if all of it got removed, do they lay eggs? Any answers would be great, it is late here so I cannot go to a petstore to get anything for it, what are the symptoms of lyme disease? I am so frustrated and very itchy right now. |
