Shanatink | 08-03-2006 10:34 AM | Warning about Flea Markets This is sort of random and just basically an FYI, but Im not sure if its something people really think of so I wanted to say it. I know alot of our local flea markets and trade/craft fairs often sell dogs and many times canine diseases like parvo spread like wild fire at these events so if you take your dog or handle dogs at a flea market make sure your dog is current on thier shots and you wash and disinfect your hands. I would recommend not handling other peoples animals at a flea market. 3 years ago I bought a beautiful blue fawn chihuahua from breeder at a flea market and it turns out my chihuahua had parvo and all from that litter had gotten it. The breeder didnt know at the time I purchased the chihuahua(so she says anyways) and I was the first to call on it but over the course of the next week she had learned all the pups had parvo and was devestated, as was I. Best we can tell it looks like the dog's got parvo from the flea market and I have since found out that its extremely common at these type of events.
So be sure if you take your yorkie to a flea market type event that they are current on thier shots!
And I dont really recommend every buying a dog from a flea market. Had I known what I know now I would never have bought a dog in that type of situation (it is my opinion that many dogs sold at flea markets do not recieve the best care - just my opinion). |
