HELP! She won't stop crying... Yesterday was the first day of school for my daughter who is in the 1st grade. We got Beauty for Puss over the summer and they are like two peas in a pod. Well yesterday, when Taryn left for school Beauty seemed fine, we played for a little while and shortly after she went into her crate for a nap. About two hours later she started to cry for no reason. I assumed that she just wanted to lay on my lap so I got her and for about 2.5 nano seconds she stopped whining. It didn't dawn on me that she was missing Puss until Puss came home from school and she wouldn't let her out of her sight. Lastnight was horrible because my daughter has to be in bed by 8:30pm in order for her not to wake up GRUMPY and Beauty isn't taking these changes very well. This morning when it was time to go to the bus stop Beauty whined and whined almost to the point of screaming. She is miserable and hasn't slept at all since she fell asleep on my daughters chest at about 5:00 yesterday afternoon. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to make these changes more comfy for her, I hate to see her sad like this! |
Poor baby - I would distract her - take her for a ride in the car - take her for a walk or whatever it is you do...and just keep her busy after your daughter leaves - I bet in a few days she'll adjust to the new routine. |
AAWW that makes me sad :( I feel so sad for her missing your daughter. That is real love, don't ya think? :) |
That is sweet and sad, too. She will adjust to the new routine. She seems to have really bonded to your daughter. Give your puppy things she can look forward to doing each day. Like Villette said, walks, rides, playing fetch, etc. If your puppy has something to look forward to each day after your daughter leaves, then the separation anxiety she is experiencing will be lessened and hopefully will go away eventually when she learns your daughter always returns. Keep us up to date. That is really something. |
maybe you could have a little box of surprises and have your daughter give her one each day when she returns. My mom did that when she first started going to work and her leaving wasn't so bad knowing I was going to get a prize when she returned. I'm a prize monger to this day however.....so beware of that, lol. |
Thanks for all of the replys, today my cousin stopped by with her little boy and she played with him for a while and about 20 minutes later my daughter got home so today wasn't quite as bad as yesterday. I will definitely take you guys' advice and give her something to look forward to once Puss leaves for school. It took me so long responding because my internet has been down most of the day. But thanks I really appreciate the responses. |
I had a dog once (not a yorkie) who was really attached to me and would cry if I even went in to take a shower. I talked to the vet about it, and he suggested that I handle her favorite toy as much as I could to get my scent on it. I tried it, and it worked. She would lay outside the bathroom door with her little stuffed toy while I took a shower, but she didn't cry. |

Whining because they miss us? Do dogs whine because they miss someone??? My Oliver has been whining for the 3 hours and I cannot figure out why?? I tried everything; took him out - a zillion times, brought him all of him toys?? He runs to where my husband sits in every room.....I can't figure it out? |
Do you have an old jumper or cardigan that your daughter could wear for a while and then leave it with her while she is at school so she still has her scent? thats what i do when i have to go out as my suzi panics a bit when shes left alone, but i leave my old jumper on the chair for her and she is just fine:) |
Get something that smells like Puss, (a shirt, or a toy) and let her be with it. It will soothe her. When I went to Florida for a week, my mom had a pretty hard time with Dixie. She would cry, and scratch on my door to get in my room, and when she'd let her in my room she'd scratch my covers, and whine sniffing around for me. She was SO excited when I finally got home! (as was I) but what happened was my mom got a t-shirt of mine, and layed it on the bed with her and my dad, and she'd sleep in bed with them. :D |

Thank you for that.. i am thinking you are right. I asked my hubbie when he got home tonight if Oliver has whined at all and he said no. So, sure....he whines for my hubbie and not me...lol:( |
Me thinks Beauty needs a little playmate to keep her occupied during the day! After all, when it comes to yorkies, they are like potato chips, you can't have just one! |
