Air Travel Advice/Stud ? Hi out there! I will be taking my 6 mo. old on a 3 hr plane trip soon. Any suggestions? He seems fine in cars but has taken to whining incessantly on the bus. I also have a question about "studding" (is that right??). I am planning on neutering him in a month or so...am wondering if anyone would want his DNA (he is 4 lbs, cute and healthy). How does one go about this? Are there any drawbacks? Positives? |
Sorry I don't have any info for you as I've never flown with my yorkies and I've never been involved in breeding. But I noticed that no one has replied yet, so I wanted to bump your thread for you. ^bump |
hmmm! I find the noise of the engines and vibrations..(crate is on the floor) keeps them quiet. Get him used to being in the crate he will ride in...buy a new chewy of some type..safe one..and a few treats. Bring food and water. As to his DNA...it does not work that way. You can not breed him now and in another month he will be neutered. A good stud potential needs to be 12 months at least IMO...by waiting, you are giving him more time to become a marker in the house...you could put it off until he is mature and never have anyoen ask to sue him...believe me there are 1000's of cute males for breeding already out there..best wishes |
If he's use to the car then he should be okay in the plane. We recently took Preston on a 3.5 hour plane ride. He didn't want out of his crate during the flight I think because of the loudness. He felt better inside of it. Once in a while I'd peak in and pet him and he was absolutely fine. Do not drug him or anything like that... |
thank you for your thoughts...based on that, I don't think that I'll do it. I was told by my vet to wait until his baby teeth come out before neutering? Sound right? |
age Perfect timing! |
For the air travel, be sure to check with your airline about carrier regulations and to confirm you can take him. Some airlines don't allow dogs in the cabin and most charge you $50 to $80 each way. We just recently took a 6 hour flight with Jaxon and he did super well (we're still on the trip and fly back on Saturday - hopefully he'll do just as well). I had him on my lap part of the time (covered with a blanket ;) ) but it was an evening flight which really helped. Hope it goes well for you. |
