Poor baby, I would've beat those folks DOWN! |
I'm so sorry you had such a horrible experience (I don't have any of my own to share since I groom Sissy myself). From his before & after photos, he certainly did not look like he his hair was matted at all. Was he sleeping in the after photos - or really didn't want his picture taken?! It looks like the cut he was given is one that is used on Schnauzers. Is this all groomers know how to do??? At least it is just his hair (I know easy to say) and it will grow back. |
Don't even get me started on PetSmart Groomers...lol Oh goodness! Not you too!!!  I had the SAME exact experience at PetSmart about 2 and 1/2 weeks ago. I was F-U-R-I-O-U-S!!! I took in 3 pictures of how I wanted his hair cut, and they STILL screwed him up!! I made a few posts all about it on the "PetSmart Groomers" link that someone posted on this thread. I will never in my life take ANY of my animals back there again. My sister took her English Bulldog there about a week ago (I TOLD her not to - I warned her soooo many times, but OF COURSE she didn't listen ) and she ended up getting a refund as well. She took her in for a bath and to have her nails trimmed and when she picked up her dog (2 hours later) she was SOPPING WET and shivering. Should of listened to me! Trust me, I KNOW how you feel about your babies hair, but Stedman's (my Yorkie) is surprisingly growing back REALLY fast. His face is already PERFECT looking right now, and his body hair is soo much longer than it was right after we had him groomed, and it's only been 2 and 1/2 weeks. If you go and read the "PetSmart Groomers" thread that someone posted the link to on here, you will see pictures of how horrible my little baby looked (IMO he looked like a Schnauzer! And that's SPECIFICALLY what I told her I DID NOT want!). He was wayyyyyy too short. Anyhow, I will post pictures in a little while of what he looks like today, 2 and 1/2 weeks after that horrible cut. Hopefully the pictures that I post in a little while (I'm not on my computer right, I'm on hubbies and the pictures of Stedman aren't on here) will put your mind at ease because I too was freaking out, thinking that it would take his hair FOREVER and a day to grow back, but surprsingly it isn't. I actually really like the way his face looks right now. It still could be a little longer (and his body hair especially) but it is MUCH, MUCH better  P.S.- They NEVER want to take the time to brush them out like they are supposed to! I think that's the whole entire reason why she cut him so dang short to begin with. SHE told me what time to bring him in, and it was way too late. She ended up having to stay late because she had to work on Stedman, and another dog, and I KNOW she just didn't want to take the time to brush him out properly like she was supposed to. He had a couple VERY, VERY SMALL mats (and I know because I checked him before we left - I had planned on brushing him out BEFORE I took him there, but something came up and I didn't have time to get to it). I normally brush him every single day, but that was the ONE day that I didn't get to brush him. Go figure!!! |

OH MY GOSH!!!! NO!!!! You need to be HAPPY with that cut!!!! SERIOUSLY! It looks WAY better than Stedman's did!!! Their body looks the same, but BE GLAD that your baby still has quite a bit of hair on his face!! Stedman had WAY less than that, and thats what I HATED!!!   I am sooo picky about the way his face looks, and thats what they REALLY screwed up on    Gosh! Our babies HAD and HAVE the exact same coloring! I swear...Stedman's coloring was exactly like your pup's in the first picture...and after he was SHAVED DOWN, he was silver. That is crazy!! Almost IDENTICAL!! |
Thanks everyone for your bad haircut pictures... they certainly did help! I never realized that dogs got badly hurt at the groomers. I feel fortunate that my guy just got a bad haircut. He doesn't seem to mind it too much now that a few hours have gone on. We took him for a walk a few hours ago and everytime we passed someone who stopped to pet him I felt the need to say, "He just got butchered at the groomers today! He doesn't normally look like this!" Stedmans Mommy - I read your post after your Petsmart experience. Our dogs look like they could be siblings! The coloring and the faces are so similar. The way they did Stedmans face is the way they did Howie's face another time that I brought him in. That should've been the last time I went there. The more I think about it, it seems to me that our babies are getting such bad haircuts because the groomers have to crank out the baths and haircuts so quickly. They can't dedicate the time to properly brushing them and combing out any tangles so they just shave them down. I had to wait for over 2 weeks to get an appointment just to get his hair cut. My big concern now is his chewing and itching himself. He's doing it on his "private parts" and his legs. How do I get him to stop?? |
He may be itchy from the shaver - if you have baby powder try rubbing a little on his tummy and down there - it may help with the itching |
good idea, thanks! |
Ok First off I think all the pictures of your babies are precious. Maybe I just used to Tigger being shaven but I still think they're adorable. John(my boyfriend) Feels Tigger would be too hot with long hair. We don't love our babies less based on how they look now do we? we're not that superficial, but rather how they love us and the cute small quirks they have. John and I have a wonderful groomer with Petsmart. I once worked there and was able to watch through the window and see who was the most gentle and who has the best looking dogs coming out. It was always our girl... Some are just plain out rough and I agree some come out looking like crap, we just got lucky. So I really think it takes a lot of researching to find one you really are comfy with. I found mine. |

I would be mad too:mad: but he is such a cutie, he looks good without hair too.. With all this heat this summer he probably feels so much better... It will grow:) |
I woiuld be so mad too. Luckily, I have this groomer that the old vet recommended and she comes to your house and you can get in her van and be with your baby while he gets a haircut. She is the most patiente groomer and so nice. I'm really lucky. |

You're wrong. they are certified. They are sent to Grooming school just like any other groomer there is out there. It's just some may just beginning. Yes, during their training in academy they "learn on the Job" but they do go to school for it. Not every groomer you go to is going to have a plaque on the wall saying "board certified" although that sure would help. I bet half of the groomers on this planet don't have a plaque on it so it's not really fair to say it's not proven. Just my opinion I hope I did not offend anyone. it was not my intent. ;) |
poor little guy. He looks so tuckered out about the whole ordeal! |
why cant these places respect your wishes?? how can they get away with doing what they please? So far I have never used a groomer, I have thought about it, but hearing stories like this I think I will just continue to do my own grooming, I do take her to get a nail trim but thats about all. So sorry for that happening to you! I hope you got your money back!! |
