Weed Killer/What would you do? It has come to my and other's attention that our maintenance crew, at the development where I live, have been using weed killer in the dog walking areas. Seems they don't like weeds! They do no posting to warn walkers there may be danger for a couple of days. Now we find out they are not certified in NY to even use it. It was told to a dog owner a certain party on the crew would rather kill weeds than worry about the dogs! It's been going on for years he said. It all makes sense now why so many of the dogs are sick! From cancer, heart conditions, vomiting and diahreah. Bud was hopitalized for 4 days last year for unknown vomiting and diahreah. I even asked the super about it and was told no pestisides were used in those areas. He lied! So we are getting together to have a meeting with the board to see if they agree or hide it. If they choose to hide it we are getting legal counsel. Do you agree? You can't trust anyone anymore. How sick is this? |
What kind of complex do you live in? It is not unheard of for apartment maintenance to purchase products in spray bottles that are intended for home use for this kind of thing. As such, you don't need any kind of license or certification to apply it. However, in a public area, they are creating huge liability issues if there is no warning. Most places will hire a company to do their lawn fertilizing for them with licensed applicators and warning signs posted following use. Once a weed killer has been applied, it needs to sit for several hours then we watered into the ground for it to really have any effect. No one (not an animal nor a person) should walk on it for at least 24 hours after it has been watered in. All week killers are highly toxic to all living things!! I would definitely complain. This is dangerous to you as well - perhaps if more people realized that it might make a difference. Good luck. |
I don't have an answer for you. I did a search and this was the best I could find: http://groups.google.com/group/trian...fb8486442ad921 |
That's terrible! Some people who spray insecticides or weed killer are very responsible, but many could care less. I had our basswood tree sprayed once for bugs and it went into stress. I called the guy back and he said, "Well, I made the solution extra strong so I wouldn't get called back." In doing so, he nearly killed our tree. All the labels and warnings on the bottles are there for a reason! Good luck with your meeting and I hope something positive can come from it! |
