Changing Groomers 1 Attachment(s) Has anyone had this happen to them? Misha my Maltese goes in every 5 to 6 weeks to get groomed. This is her second ear infection. It happens about a week after grooming. I'm wondering if she is getting them from the groomer. The shop looks very clean, but maybe she is reusing the same hemostats to clean their ears out without properly sterilizing them. Can a dog catch an ear infection from another dog or dirty utensils? Any how I called and canceled her next apt, and made one elsewhere. |
Sometimes they get water in the ears and it causes an infection. I would request from the groomer that they put cotton balls in their ears |

I think you can get the brown junk from a yeast infection. However if it is brown and looks like coffee grounds it is ear mites |
Great, that's what it looks like brown gunky with some coffee grinds. When I use a Qtip it comes out. Nothing is moving. I know if it is mites, she got them from the groomer. We use revolution, I think that is supposed to take care of mites, so It must be some kind of yeast infection. I still have some meds from the last time. I started putting the drops in along with rinsing with the ear solution 1st. |
If never had this happen, but I did quit going to a groomer before because things didn't meet my "regulations" about cleaning! Sometimes, the first impression is everything! I wasn't taking chances! Good luck with your Maltese! What a cutie! Oh, we have just quit going to our regular groomer (about 2 months ago) because she swatted Mojo. We stay there while he is getting groomed, she likes to talk....anyway, she did apologize (he wasn't staying where she wanted him to) because she had had a rough week (this was on a Friday about 3pm).....it didn't matter to me.....my daughter and I did everything we could to keep from snatching him up and leaving right then and there! |
I have never had either yorkie get an ear infection but I have had my vet tell me the groomer was not plucking the hair inside their ears good enough and I would imagine one could certainly get an infection if utensils aren't sterile. There are groomers who come to your home, you might try that so you could be sure all is well. |
