She's gaining soooooo slow I know I'm probably over worrying and several people have posted similar worrys, but I need reassurance right now! Tia went in for her 16 week appointment and is only 1.5 pounds. I always thought that Bailey was small, but she was 3 pounds at the same age. The vet said he was happy because she is eating and gaining. She plays, runs cuddles- everything you would want from a puppy, but she is soooo darn small. I don't need to be worried, right? :scratchhe |
Don't worry so much as long as she is eating, pooping & playing and she's happy, she will get there...Life is to short to worry about the little things..(like Tia weight:rolleyes: ) She will be fine!!! Just enjoy her she will get big before you know it.....:p |
I'm sure your little baby is perfect. My Trixie was like that and is now a healthy 5 lb dog. However, my Pia is almost 1 1/2 and only weighs 2 lbs. She's healthy but it does make you worry. Good luck:animal36 |
Don't worry. When I got Gus I think he was 1.9 at 10 weeks. At 4 months he was just a little over 2 bls. Just after his first birthday at the time of his accident, he was only 2.9. He as put on a few since then and is now 3.1 lbs Your baby is just going to be a tiny one. I was too concerned but the vet said he was just fine and that he was just going to be a tiny guy and not to worry. |
weight If the vet is not concerned, that is a reassurance..and she does sound like she is doing very well. I would take it week by week and make sure she eats..with a tiny like this I would have food at night until 6 months or 2 pounds, whatever comes first....Best wishes |
If the vet isn't worried, i wouldn't be worried either. |
I agree, as long as she's active in all areas, I'm sure she's fine. Also, I appreciated the previous post about keeping food out 24/7 until 2 pounds. I wondered about that & also about the water. After 2 pounds, do we still keep water out at night as well?:doghouse: |
feeding With any of mine who stayed 3 and under at adulthood, I left a small bit of kebble and water at night...mine slept in confined x-pens. I have always catered to the tiny guys. Most vets feel they are fine with no food or water at 2 pounds..and I guess it depends on how long you sleep at night. |
As stated in another post, you will always worry about your tiny one and will have to take extra caution with everything you do. It sounds like Tia will stay pretty small, so trust your instincts. |
Thanks everyone for your advise and support!!! I am really worried about all the things that can go wrong and I wasn't prepared for the amount of worry that comes along with a small dog. Because I got Tia from the same breeder as Bailey, she knew I was already familiat with the breed and asked me to take her over there larger sister. I didn't realize how much more there was to raising a tiny yorkie and would never do it again!!!! |

Well the reality is, that whether you worry or not, she will grow as big as she grows. My guess is, she is going to be very tiny, three pounds or less. |
Polly is my small one, she will be two in Feb. When she was a puppy I mad sure she ate her puppy food, but would pick it up so my older yorkies wouldn't eat it, they loved it. Doc said it was ok for her to eat the older dogs food that was left out 24/7. He said you just want to make sure she eats. |
I have the oppisite problem Peeka is growing like a weed when i brought him home at 7 weeks he was 1.3 lbs now at almost 13 weeks he is 2.8 lbs his parents were 4.4 and 3.2(dad) so i don't know if he is a fast starter and will slow down or if he will keep gaining? Sounds like your baby will be tiny but as long as she is eating she'll prob be fine good luck! |
I know how you feel. My 5 month old weighs 1.14 oz. Its easy to be afraid for them because they are so small !! |
