Girl Yorkies VS. Boy Yorkies question I saw it mentioned here in another thread, but I wanted to see what everyone feels about this: Are boy yorkies more affectionate than girl yorkies? The reason I ask is because I'm getting one in a few months, and I've been wanting a girl so that I can put her in dresses,etc..but I also want a yorkie who is affectionate and likes to cuddle. So tell me...what are your experiences? Natalia |
My girl is much more affectionate than my boy... |
My boy and 3 girls are very affectionate. I must say, my boy is the most affectionate, but I attribute that to I babied him more when he was a baby because he was so tiny. :) |
Hallie is a LOVEBUG to the extreme!! Simon will be 3 in September and he is slowly becoming more affectionate with me, although he has always given the best kisses :) He's usually to busy playing ball or rolling in dirt to be lovey :) hahahaha A true boy!!!! |
I have both a male and a female. The Female is way more cuddley and sweet than my male one is. Britney likes to go where ever I go. Brooklyn would rather do his own thing. |
Alright, so it sounds like yorkies are just like people, some are more affectionate than others. |

My first yorkie, Gracie was the most spoiled and cuddled puppy ever. I dressed her is cute dresses and kept her in cute bows. We lived in Palm Beach County until she was 6 months old which is a very dog friendly place. She went just about everywhere with me. I talked to her constantly. SHe was really like my little baby. As an adult she is the most independent dog I've seen. She hates to be held, she hates to be dressed and I finally cut her topknot off because even though she will let me put her hair up, she plays so rough I can't keep a bow in. She is a very friendly dog, don't get me wrong, but very far from what I expected and truthfully she prefers my husband. I think its because he just plays with her and doesn't try to hold, cuddle or kiss her. Of course I love her none the less but... Sugar is my little boy. He wants to be in my arms or lying by me at all times. He does not want me out of his site. He never refuses to cuddle, in fact he'd probably be happy if we cuddled all day long. When I talk to him he gets excited and acts like he's listening. He loves to wear shirts and leaves his bows in. We are completely in love with each other. My mom had a girl who has passed but she was very much like my Gracie. She now has a boy who is Gracie's brother who is a little sweetie pie. My daughter has a boy who is also a sweetie pie. So, for whatever its worth, that's my experience.:) |
Okay, I'm not trying to hijack but want to say quickly, I've been sitting here feeling guilty that I was a little harsh on Gracie so just wanted to say that as my first yorkie, she has and always will have a special place in my heart. I always blamed myself for having too high expectations but maybe its a personality conflict. Anyway, thanks for letting me assuage my guilt.;) |
my male seems to want more of my attention then female but he's still a baby he's 12 weeks she 1yr 1 month |
I Have Two Boys My boys are very affectionate. Remmy the most he will come and give me a hug and lay his head up on my shoulder. He loves to cuddle and will stay by my side for hours. Chance is still a pup and will kiss till the cows come home. He does not like to stay still he is to busy exploring. But chance likes his lovey time to. Usually when he has ticked me off...he comes and gives me kisses.:p |
I have a boy and a girl that are brother and sister. Hobbs is 10 months old and SUCH a cuddler! He would lay with you and cuddle all day if he could. Hootie is my girl and she is only 13 weeks old, so right now she is a cuddler, but who knows what the future may bring! My parents, grandparents, and sister all have female yorkies they are all VERY independant. I think it has a lot to to with how you raise them. I know it is just a cute little saying, but I've always heard that female yorkies "love" you, but male yorkies are "in love" with you. Does that make sense? |

Tigger has been a total cuddlebug since day one, and a year later still is. I'm getting another one soon so I'm hoping he's the same. Tigger get's jealous when my boyfriend and I even hug so as you can see he's a very big jealous cuddlebunny |
I'll admit that I got my boy because I had heard that they were more cuddly. My baby is super cuddly! He follows me EVERYWHERE!! If I go upstairs (he can't climb stairs) he will be waiting for me at the bottom of the steps 10 mins later! BUT.... I will say that I think it is very individual & how they are raised. Snickers went through an ordeal where he broke his leg & was confined to a cage for 6 weeks. He had to be on a leash to eat or use the bathroom so that he wouldn't run at all. Because of this, he was on my lap alot & in a front pack carrier because I felt so sorry for him. Honestly, before all this happened...he really wasn't overly cuddly. He would lay on the couch with me, but only by my feet. After he was finally "free" he was a changed cuddler! Either way you go, you will wonder what took you so long to get a yorkie, because these little babies make you fall in love & fast! |
Between myself and my parents, we own 2 girls and 2 boys. The boys are by far more calm than the females who definately run the house. The boys were quicker to house break though...until Cody was used as a stud anyway:rolleyes: |
I never had a female so I can only judge by Buddy. He is a kisser and cuddler. He is up my butt all the time. I swear one day I am going to fall over him and hurt us both. |

Dollie is my first yorkie and I have to tell you SHE is a lover. I have babied her from the moment I put my hands on her and she loves to cuddle. The minute I sit down she has to be on my lap. After awhile she will go to the end of the couch but when she is tired and sleepy up she comes. When we go to bed she must, must, be by my side and I cover her head and say night night and she is out like a light. She is absolutely precious. In the morning I get up and she does her thing, but she has no peace until she is up on the bed kissing my husband good morning and knowing that everything is fine. He will lie down next to her until he gets up. My husband is lying on the couch and I type and Dollie is just lying by his side as he reads. I don't know about the Boy/Girl thing. I just think these little furbabies are God's Gift to us all. |

Both my girls love to be where I am, give lots of kisses and love to be handled. It's important to handle them a lot when they are young, esp around the face and paws. When they get older they will be used to it, mine let me put their hair up every morning, brush them and their teeth and will give me a kiss even when they are mad at me for something. I have found that the cloth coated rubber hairbands for little girls work great. Easy to put in and easy to remove at night. |
