Dog Whisperer tonight - Monday 31st I checked and the Dog Whisperer will be on my TV tonight at 9:00. (Washington) I have expanded cable - digital TV - whatever - and can't get the show on the regular National Geographic Channel (9) --- but do get it on another National Geographic channel (273). Part of the show is about Oliver and Winston (Yorkshire Terriers) - who have to learn to live together peaceably in the same house. Hope a lot of you can get it - check out the Online TV Guide for your area. Then you'll know for sure Carol Jean |

thankx 2 sharing.:) |
It's on in an hour for me...I'm so watching it.... |
I can't wait!!! I'm just killing time till it's on. |
Me too, thanks for telling us about it!!!! |
Those Yorkies were soooo cute! Did you guys see the part where Cesar says, "this is harder than bulldogs!" Welcome to our world, Cesar....:D |
I've heard bad things about Cesar's schools so I approached the episode as a critic...but he dealt with these small babies in exactly the same way my trainer is teaching us, and I understood what he was doing every inch of the way. I DO object to the non-Yorkie segment where he wants to walk a dog using a bicycle or rollerblades...I just don't think that's safe, what happens if you fall off your wheels or the dog suddenly bolts? The possibility of injury to you, the dog, or others is just too great in my estimation. But, the segment on Yorkies was helpful to me, and I just grinned like an idiot when I saw that big cop crying over concern for how he's raising his furbabies...I knew EXACTLY what he was feeling and I empathized with him! |
aww i missed it :( ! Read this thread to late! |
It was great!!! I think it comes on everynite this week....:) |
For those of us unable to watch, can anyone give a synopsis of the problem and solution??? :) |
Aw gee! I didn't get to see it either- I don't have National Geographic channel. |
the National GEographic blog entry for the episode is here http://blogs5.nationalgeographic.com...erer/index.php Basically, the Yorkies were little terrors. They had one, and he was a well-behaved little guy; then they got another, and all the training went down the drain. They had paper-trained both and both dogs were good until they decided to carpet half the house; the first thing the Yorkies did was pee on the new carpet, and then proceeded to poop in every room of the hosue--so much so, that they have baby gates everywhere. The Yorkies are very agressive and territorial, "interrupting" when humans are talking, "fighting" with the vaccuum cleaner and one actually attacks a bush. They actually didn't address the potty problem that I could see, but they did work on the agressive behavior by showing the owners how to assert themselves--a sharp noise to get their attention, a "ssh" or "hey" and getting in their faces to show that you 'own' the territory that they are trying to get to and that they are not allowed there. rather than address the potty problem they showed how to reinforce how to have "invisible gates" in the house--how to show the dog that they are simply not allowed somewhere. It takes correction EVERY time, but the Yorkies seemed to react positively immediately. They also showed how to hold the leash and show the dog that it's YOUR leash and that they were NOT allowed to attack shrubbery. LOL |
I started to tear up when the Big Policeman started to get weepy...! But I've NEVER seen any dog attack a bush like Winston did! I'm sure it was really troubling for the owners but... I just had to laugh because it was so unexpected! The most amazing thing is Winston's topknot stayed in place! Great episode. Even a obediance judge has trouble with her Mini Bull Terrier! So it made me feel better that I don't alway have control of Jazzie! :D Did you see the dog that ate a squirrel???? Yikes! |
